Remember when the Cowboys traded a 3rd round pick for Drew Henson?

I do and there were many fans who thought he had the potential to be the next great QB.

That didn't age well and is a cautionary tale to set realistic expectations for the Lance trade. I'm glad we made the move and took a chance with limited risk on a young talent, but there's a lot of devolpment ahead. We should all hope he can develop becauase that means the Cowboys added value.

The latest trade got me thinking about Henson with what went wrong there and how the Cowboys can help Lance with a more succesful development?
What went wrong with Henson was his decision to play baseball. Pretty hard to come back to football after not having played for two years -- that's especially hard on QB who needs to speed up his reads for the NFL.

I’m not sure, but I don’t think Lance has played 50 games in his whole life, and I wonder, of those, how many did he use a play book? His throwing motion needs work to become more consistent. But he has legs for sure.

Making a trade like this, at this point, without consulting everyone they usually do goes against what they say they do. I hope it works out, I just don’t like how they did it, then how they told everyone who would listen how they did it, all while having much bigger needs at much more critical positions just seems like magical wishing, instead of following their scouting department.

The anointing Oil was out before Drew Henson threw a pass..... There were even thoughts of giving the guy No.8 jersey till Parcells scrapped that merchandising ploy.... :lmao: :lmao:
Anyone but Quincy Carter. I would have backed Elvis Presley over Quincy the Bong Carter.

The big difference is Henson cut short his college career to play pro baseball and was out of football for a couple of years.
And football was not their first love. They just couldn't cut it at baseball.

Some of the more athletic positions it may not make a difference, but I want my QB to live, breathe and poop Football!

But yes, it does make me nervous anytime Jerry takes over a trade because of experiences like this and all our wanna-be franchise receivers.

Just curious, does anyone really believe at this point that Lance will be a franchise QB someday? I think the consensus is he will develop into a good backup to Dak one day. If he is capable of taking over the team from Dak in 2 years, that is icing on the cake and puts Dallas in a much better bargaining position when it comes to Dak's contract. But that would be getting way ahead of ourselves.

1-2 years with MM will help. There is no pressure on him, just keep learning and plugging away.
You think MM is a better QB coach than Shanahan?

You are CRAZY.

The 9ers had a problem. Lance (3rd overall pick) at the QB3 is a bad look. Moving him for anything was a win.

They beat us again.

Hey ...it was worth a roll of the dice for a 4th rounder...

It might have been a bad fit; Shannahan is not some QB whisperer that is NEVER wrong. HE has had several QBs fail on him so he is not the ALMIGHTY QB COACH you claim he is

uh boy....don't remind us. I think Jim Henson would have been a better QB than Drew. Even with the other hand holding Kermit, the frog. He was a bigger bust than Dolly Parton.

So you’re saying MMC will get a new contract. I see what what you saying there
Jerry likes being comfortable. This team cannot lose Quinn but I think MM is the better head coach in keeping the team prepared and focused

They traded for him to develop and perhaps be the long term backup. More upside with him than Rush and Grier combined.

I know so many fans want to make this all about Dak, but it's really all about finding a guy the team can win with and not in spite of in case Dak gets hurt again.

Na, they didn't trade for a hopeful back up. That's not how Jerry thinks. They saw potential and decided to swing for the fences. It isn't necessarily in spite of Dak, just another preparation for the future.

MM has shown he can develop QBs such that they are successful under other offensive schemes. Shanahan not so much.

Shanahan is really good at producing system QBs is all I have seen to this point.

Value for draft picks have changed over time as the cap developed over time...Washington went through a period where they traded high picks for veterans.
