I miss the ignorance of being a kid. When you truly didn't understand how the world worked and everything seemed simpler. I miss when everything was black and white and there were no shades of gray...not even 50 of them.

I miss when kids would play outside all of the time. I miss when politeness was a lot more common. I miss when compromise wasn't a dirty word.
I miss:

Look both ways before you cross the street.
Don't cuss in front of women.
Yes sir, no sir.
All things before the internet.
Kids playing baseball on weekends.
Dancehalls.
26 kegs of beer at weddings.
Hunting by sitting against a tree w/ no feeders.
My Oma.
The sugar cookies our neighbor Ella Birck would always give us kids.
Conversations and arguments about stuff w/o simply looking it up on the internet.
College.(Who doesn't?!!!!)

However, I've had a good life, and I simply don't regret anything. Our experiences, good, bad, and embarrassing, make us. Take anything away or add anything, and we are a different person. The decisions we made at the time were made because of who we are, and those decision would've been different only if we had been a different person.

Love life, and make it joyful as possible, for both yourself and those around you.

I would add cell phones to that as well. I am not sure the younger generation will be able to communicate with one another and interpreting intent with texts can be as risky as emails.

I read recently that a lot of youth are rejecting online and cellphone culture and are choosing to physically hang out with each other instead. If this is true, I have hope for the future.

If I am eating at a restaurant w/ kids, the cellphones get put up, or one of us leaves. I refuse to be subjected to that sort of rudeness.

I miss the Cowboys being Coached by Tom Landry,QB'd by Roger Staubach and that defense anchored by DE Too Tall Jones and DT Randy White.
I miss seeing Ernie Stautner on the sidelines with that utility belt he wore.
I miss not worrying about if the door was locked.
I miss the way Pizza Hut,McDonalds and Kentucky Fried tasted...WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?
I miss ridin my bike til dark...when kids could play in the street and not worry about anything.
I miss Elvis on tour.

still got my Elvis vinyl....still play them.
but I miss my old stereo.

As far as Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC go{Not McDonalds though}they are all now owned by Yum Food Inc. Which would explain all of them going downhill bigtime. Those used to be very good, not anymore. http://www.yum.com/
Harland Sanders, Glen Bell and Dan and Frank Carney are all probably turning in their graves.

I wouldn't trade my childhood to those of today for millions of $$$. We went out to play early and knew it was time to go home when the street lights came on. We fashioned our own go-carts, raced motorcycles, bikes and 3-wheelers at the local trails.

We had the best street baseball games using various types of balls, had awesome football games consisting of three consecutive front yards.

The only technology we had was a Vic-20 or Commodore 64 and cable TV was new. Coleco and Atari were just getting started.

We broke many bones, had multiple scrapes and cuts and plenty of after-school fistfights to settle our differences.

I would go outside at halftime on Sundays and pretend to be Staubach. Sure sounds familiar to a country song.........1980 something :flagwave:

It's funny that you guys mentioned it. I had Pizza Hut last night for the first time in a long time. I was like "What is this crap!? This is not the Pizza Hut I remember." My son loves pizza and he wouldn't eat more than one piece. I did just because I didn't want to waste it.

There's no such thing as a good chain pizza place. Good pizza is made by pizza chefs, not 18 year old kids, just looking for a little paycheck.

I had KFC about 2 years ago, for the first time in probably 30 years. They were advertising some kind of boneless hot wings. They weren't bad, and the potato wedges were pretty good too..........I had them in the "Go Cup", for about $3, so I can't really complain, except that it took about 10 minutes for them to fill my order, even though I was the only customer there.

I was a college professor for seven years as a side hustle.

Two things I learned through the years I would pass along to my students...

1. Life passes you by when you hit 30. Mostly because of all the responsibility you have.

2. Life is fragile. It doesn't take much for you to die. Considering there's six million ways to die.....you do the math.

This could be possible. I have some younger family members on my Facebook and they seem to be much less involved in the social media scene then some of my friends. My generation seems to be particular bad. I'm guilty too. I tend to get on Facebook and post some things here and there but I swear some people are attached to their phones 24-7. I genuinely wonder if they give attention to their loved ones.

I'd bet a years pay that (other than someone here deliberately repeating these words) I'll never again read or hear the words, "I was a college professor as a side hustle."

Indeed, I hope so because that has has been proclaimed a disease with both falling into the addiction category. Video games became categorized as much several years back.

My son with children, and thank God the other hasn't procreated that I know of, uses these Kindles for Kids as occupiers as parents used to use TV. I noticed that after an hour or so on one, both seemed moody and I pointed this out. Usually, that would be a mistake for a grandparent but they began to observe closer and agreed and began to set the timer and which games seemed to have this effect. Both my grandsons are very active and love to play outside so a dangerous habit has been averted because with certain people video games can be a disconnect to real life.

But man, I miss the Atari, ColecoVision, Odyssey, Intellivison, Nintendo and 64 game systems. I could actually use the controllers and jot sticks on those and the games were made for technologically challenged people like me. These controllers now are not made for my hands. I tried playing a Switch game with my son and got hand cramps.

I do believe my reflexes are not what they used to be, Doc hit me on the knee with that little hammer and my knee jerked 3 days later. The woman in the checkout line in front of me was not pleased.

Yeah and I tell ya, I enjoyed fast food a hell of a lot more before talking to my sons' friends while they were growing up. It seems every ff place has a horror story from someone who worked there.

When I lived in Dallas, my next door neighbor's brother owned most of the Dallas Taco Bell franchises and refused to let his kids eat there. This was before the "how much meat is really in that taco" or the pink slime crap came out. Screw that, I trust a taco truck run by illegal aliens more than that. In fact, I trust them more than the legal's, they want fewer complaints....especially from the cops that eat there all the time.
