Report: Brian Westbrook Released *Merge*

I could see Westbrook going to Seattle, New Orleans, Green Bay, CHICAGO, Denver, Houston, Pittsburgh, and New England.

So long farewell, auf weidersehen, adieu!
Adieu, adieu, to you and you and you!

Not that there is anything wrong with that...

His concussion symptoms lingered for weeks and weeks.

He and LaDanian should both hang 'em up.

Unless your name is Emmitt Smith or Ottis Anderson (and maybe a handful of others), this is a young running back's league.

Thomas Jones also comes to mind. He seemed to hit his stride when other backs start hitting the wall (which, by the way, they are speculating in New York that he may be cut as well this offseason).

LT maybe but not Westbrook. Concussions are career enders.

Diamonds anong trash! :laugh2:

Great player, but needs to hang it up. Way too many concussions and though he'd like to win a SB, it won't be as a starter.

Houston will pick either him/LT up at some point I'm betting.

Wow, Tomlinson, T.O. and now Westbrook on the open market. Can Jerry help himself?????:D

I have nothing but respect for him. I think he is a good fit in Indianapolis. If he can stay healthy his receiving skills out of the backfield would be vital. It won't shock me at all if the Bears and Mike Martz take a run at him.

I wonder how this will sit in the Eagles locker room?, Dawkins last year and now Westbrook.

i think the eagles players are well aware of the front office's reputation.

that said, this is probably the right move for the eagles in the longer run from a fiscal perspective.

Glad to see him out of Philly as he has been a major thorn in our side for the past decade.

Hopefully he realizes it is time to protect his brain and hang the cleats up. It just isn't worth going on to chronic traumatic encephalopathy when it can be avoided.

Second thread with complicated medical terminology reference today. Are you a health care worker or do just stay up watching reruns of House all night? :D

Sorry, doctor by day.

Chronic traumatic encepapholopathy is a dementing (like Alzheimer's dementia) illness usually striking youngish adults who have a history of playing contact sports. It is distinguished from other early dementing illnesses by the history of multiple head traumas even if all were "only concussions". It has classic findings on tissue slides under the microscope with certain dyes which are pathognomonic (meaning its prevalence is equivalent to the disease because it only is found in this disease) for the condition. It is usually associated with premature death.

This is not a condition that you want anyone to get because it is totally preventable and totally untreatable outside of symptomatic management and supportive care. To me, it is an utter tragedy that anyone should ever suffer from this condition.

I bet he goes to the Giants.
We love to take him as a punt and kick off returner, just to aggravate Fat Andy and the Eagirls!
