They said they will sure up the backup spot. Never said anything about the future from what I've seen.

It is hard enough to think they would draft a QB early to have him be the reserve, much less expect them to draft one to be the third QB.

If you have a desire for the team to draft the future starter for the post-Romo era, you better hope neither one of these two unholies are signed.

You get very few chances to pick a franchise QB in the top 5 draft picks of any year. When you get an opportunity to get a good one
you just do it. QB is the most important position on the field every year. I think we found that out this year didn't we?

Yeah but the thing is... how many QBs taken in the top 10 range in recent years have been busts? Quite a few. Matt Lineart, Vince Young, JaMarcus Russell, Sam Bradford, Brady Quinn, Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, Christan Ponder and many more. Of course any player at any position can be a bust, but QB tends to be either hit or miss. Pus we'd have to wait 3-4 years to even find that out with Romo still in the fold. If the Cowboys are serious about going all out to win it all during Romo's last couple seasons, getting a guy like RG3 or even drafting a Cardale Jones or Kevin Hogan in later rounds would be the way to go. Getting a guy at #4 that can contribute right away would be huge.

RGIII left this note in his locker after cleaning it out. I like it -

That's the thing...most don't like that kind of stuff. How about shut up do your job. That would go a lot further with me. Guy was probably planning for weeks about hanging this up on his way out. I don't know how about planning to get better for your next job. There's always a sense of secret rebellion going on with this guy.

How much would you bet? He used to be able to run the ball to get out of trouble, now he can't do that anymore. He can't run and he can't read
defenses...pass please!

To be fair he would only need to win 2 games lol

Exactly. That's not humble. That's a diva having the last word.

A jilted diva having the last word.

Cowboys need a back up QB that can win a few games.....RG3 will be learning a system he has never played in....doesnt understand how to read defenses and not played in a year......Best to find a journeyman QB that fits the system.....the goal is win... not to teach another QB how to play the position......that is what he draft is for

Very intelligent post. Nice job.

The harm is that he has yet to prove he can play outside of a gimmick scheme. Thus it is a terrible idea.

Terrible idea if you're bringing him in to be a starter.

This is still not a "terrible idea" - stop exaggerating. Looking at the backup QBs on the market this offseason, RGIII is high up there as a quality backup. His ego is the problem.

So if he can't function in a pro style scheme, yes, it is a terrible idea to bring him in as a backup. What do we do when Romo goes down, install the read option midstream?

Bring him in as a backup. We did have Cassell. We did have Moore. And a change of scenery may help him out. And those that say the Skins won the division with another QB...well, they won it by default. That team is not that good. Kirk Cousins had such an up and down season.

Kirk didn't beat a winning team all year. That tells you about how good they truly were.

The correct move for the Cowboys to make is to take advantage of Romo's prime and get some playmakers in here. A backup qb is not a playmaker. And no matter who they draft they will probably be as ineffective as Cassel and Moore were being that no one can run this offense but Romo it seems. They would do better drafting another playbook with the 4th overall pick then they would a quarterback.

Everyone keeps talking about you don't have many chances to draft a QB in the top 5. You will if Romo gets hurt again or if he retires.

I'm kind of tired of the journeyman backup QB route.

Brad Johnson, Jon Kitna (although he played well), Kyle Orton, Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel, etc.

Bringing in RG3 gives us the best of both worlds - a guy who has experience playing in the league and also a guy who's young and athletic enough to possibly around for a while. I think him sitting out a year has humbled him and has given his body a chance to heal.

If either of these walking distractions were signed, we will not draft a top QB prospect. They will view addressing the backup situation as mission accomplished and move on to other things.

That's how I see it as well and I hope I am wrong.

Saying good bye to Washington...saying good bye to possibly being a quality NFL quarterback? I don't think so.

Makes sense, I wouldn't mind him coming to Dallas if he is willing to sit and learn and work on his craft. He is not a starter right now but he appears bright and smart and could turn his career around.

He had equivalent of nuclear meltdown and is shell of his former self. He is far from just needing to work on his craft.

Griffin has hardly demonstrated what he can do outside of the read option. The one season he wasn't in the read option, he was hardly terrible. If we want to discuss ego, fine. But to sit here and pretend that we have enough film on him to know if he can't perform in a pro style offense is absurd.

His issues in Washington was injury and butting heads with a hot head coach.
