Nobody is as important as a franchise QB. We needed another o-line less than we need to have someone waiting in the shadows to replace our 34 year old QB who just had back surgery. Truth be told we aren't going anywhere this year anyway regardless of Romo's health. When this team is good enough to win Romo is probably too old or too injured to make a difference and we will be stuck in QB hell for several years. I think Manziel's potential would have been well worth the gamble given our defensive targets were gone. Manziel's leadership and intangibles are off of the chart which is why I think he will succeed. Those things can't be taught.

really? if it becomes time for us to replace Romo, then we draft one in the draft. Teams no longer have the luxury of drafting QB to learn on the bench, top prospects in drafts start day 1 in todays NFL.

Now that being said, we do have a few drafts to pick up a QB better than Manziel, because honestly I believe he is way overrated and brings too much drama which the Cowboys don't need, Jerry does maybe, but not the Cowboys. Finally I think just maybe Jerry is coming around by taking a much much better player in Martin for this team. He will be a guy that can help protect Romo as well as future QBs for this team.

And Dan Marino.

Do we always have to hear about how we passed on so and so for so and so. I mean do you know how long that convo would be for just our team let alone for every team over the years in the draft.

I disagree. The bust potential played a part. That is why other teams that needed a QB also passed on him.

I think it had more to do with the fact he was slight of frame. If you factor injury into the "bust" equation, I agree. If not, then I think the knock on Manziel was his frame and the hype.

I was just adding another name to the list. Chillax. If we had gotten Marino, we definitely wouldn't have been the same tam we turned out to be. This is just discussion, man. Let's not get too sensitive over this discussion.

Actually it is easier to say whether a player will be good or bad than it is to say whether a trade was possible or not. We have watched the players and can perform some sort of amateur evaluation of them. We have nothing to base on whether trades were possible or not. And I do know Manziel won't be good enough at the NFL level.

The Cowboys scouts disagreed.

I haven't read much of this thread, but I don't care where Dallas had Johnny on their board, I'm just glad they didn't take him.

You didn't miss much. Though apparently there is a contest going on where Romo haters get paid $5 every time they type the words "back" and "34". That's the only way I can explain their boring, repetitive drivel.

I am not a Romo hater. I am one of his biggest fans but his "back" and "34" age scare the heck out of me. Heck, I am wearing a Romo shirt right now which is the last piece of Cowboy gear I got before I decided to quit spending money on this team until they hire a real coach after the 44 - 6 Eagle debacle in 2008.

We didn't have to move up or down. We could have just picked him n still fill the needs that we needed look at our 4th round pick who the heck is that !? Example of a wasted pick ... it is a shame no one wanted to hurt ROMOS FEELINGS BUT TO HECK WITH IT ROMO HAS CRUSHED EVERY FAN IN HERES HEART AT ONE POINT

So what jerry ain't want to create a controversy this is a business I bet you romo would have played his best football with manziel behind him on the depth chart .. That's the problem with the cowboys if they like u a lot they protect u no man should be safe on your roster including romo

And Dan Marino.
Cool and Dan Marino has as many Super Bowl wins as Danny White? Not comparing the 2 qb's but who cares that Dallas was one of the teams who passed on (insert name here)
These post moment stories can be written about every team in the NFL.. Not just unique to Dallas.. Heck not just unique to the NFL..

The thing that bothers me the most is standing. I can sit or walk all day but if I have to stand in one place more than few minutes it kills me. I used to run 3 - 5 miles a day before my back issues started. There is no way I could run now like I used to.

People who have never dealt with that pain have NO idea. I've been in bed, immobile, unable to even walk to the bathroom and pissed in a jug for days on end. Tried to crawl to the shower, showered on my hands and knees and then could not get out of the shower. I couldn't lift my legs up 6" over the shower lip from a crawling position. My back locked up again, went into spasm and fighting through tears crawled my way back into the bedroom and ended up laying in a fetal position beside the bed for hours; then forced my way back into bed crying the whole time. Excruciating. That's why what Romo did in that Skins game was so amazing to me. I'm like you, VERY concerned about Tony's back.

I have beat this drum over the years and said it more times than I can count in the last several weeks. There's no better motivator than talent sitting behind you on the bench. The way this organization over-coddles players makes me sick. It's strikes directly at the heart of why we continue to log 8-8 seasons.

Prior to the draft, I figured a 7-9 season was in the cards. I have to revise that down to 6-10 based upon the actions of our brain trust.

dallas fourth round selection

Ummm .. Thanks Nostradamus ... Can you enlighten me on the lotto numbers tonight ? You obviously can see into the future.. LOL

Plus I don't think anyone would say that a 4th round pick is a sure fire blue chipper hit and can't miss ... That is usually reserved for earlier picks ... But sure he can be a bust I guess.. Me I will reserve judgment until he plays in the NFL ... But 4th rounders are rarely defined as busts if they flop and when successful they are great finds .. Overall most later round picks are most often just guys ...
