Most likely, the truth is that all this about celebrity and circuses and such is just spin, and the real reason is that they are friends with Tony.

I really wonder if the media realize that there were other players in this Draft besides Johnny Manziel? I have never seen so much hype for one player in my entire life.

Most people don't even realize Manziel wasn't the Browns first pick in this draft.

I understand the rationale about drafting Martin...but we will regret not grooming a QB under Romo.

Especially one with the winning traits and talents of Manziel. It's hard to get excited about a 34 yr old QB with a rebuilt spine who could only go 8-8 when healthy.

what happened to BPA? so many of you preach this including Cowboys FO. Yet we passed on BPA.....so do we even know what we're doing come draft day?

We need to wait until Romo is totally crushed and in a wheelchair before we find his replacement. That's how we did it when Aikman left and if you remember there was a smooth transition to our next winning QB.

Of course you don't do that. You still have to find a QB you think is capable of being that future quality starter. I don't think Manziel is that guy. Or Bridgewater. Not at #16. They still can grab a QB in this draft and one in next year's draft.

I heard a radio broadcast the other day where McClay said the team doesn't strictly go BPA in the absolute manner that most posters refer to. Said they evaluate both BPA and need, and basically work to find the best match to help the team.

I'm paraphrasing of course.

That's the only logical thing to do.

Garrett even admitted this in 2012, right before the draft, they'll do it. But his words were more akin to, when there is no real difference between players, they may go need.

I know I am contributing to this, but didn't Manziel get taken by a different team? why is there still a thread with nearly 200 posts in it?

Jones made the right move in NOT taking Manziel; his issue is that he talks WAY too much...KEEP OFF THE SAUCE JJ!!!

They had Manziel and Martin in the same tier (Manziel, then Martin, then next tier down). As long as that is the case, you are not at all violating BPA by taking the player of greater need.

Good luck to JM in Cleveland. They have needed some extra excitement for years, and those great fans deserve a little fun.

The first "real" job I ever had was throwing bales of synthetic rubber in boxes at the plant where one of the major tire companies makes most of their rubber. The bales of rubber were 80 lbs. and I did this on 12 hour rotating shift work for three years before moving to the laboratory. While I was throwing the rubber I had no issues and my back was fine as far as I knew. About 10 years later I started having back issues and while I have no way of proving it, I believe the repetitive motion of the rubber throwing job caused me to have bulging disc at L3-L4, L4-L5, & L5-S1. Two of those disc have since ruptured and had to be surgically repaired. I suspect I will be having a 3rd surgery one of these days.

I ran in my teens and 20's religiously without any issues. When I was 30 I started having some back pain problems and was later diagnosed with the bulging disc. I was still running but not quite as much. I went to a neurosurgeon who asked me if I had back pain or leg pain. I told him I had back pain and he said he could not do anything for back pain but if my leg ever started hurting to come back and see him. When I was 34 my back pain eased up and I had the most terrible leg pain you can imagine down my left leg. I went back to the neurosurgeon who diagnosed my with a ruptured disc and pinched nerve and scheduled surgery. I have not been able to run since that first disc ruptured, even after the surgery . Same thing happened again seven years later to another one of my original bulging disc and I had another surgery.

Thanks.

That is where you lose the argument. It has nothing to do with Romo. It has to do with the years after Romo is gone. The Romo defenders feel so threatened by the ideal of having a QB ready to step in when he is gone and they should be happy that the team is prepared. Take the Barnes and emotions out if it and fans would say it was foolish not to have a replacement .

Not at all. Your assuming 90 percent of us don't want to prepare for the future w/o Romo and that is simply not true. What we don't want is to use a first round pick when Romo can still play at a high level and with so many needs that if those needs are ignored Roger could play QB and it wouldn't matter.

The support on this board for Romo isn't emotion based. Every conceivable conclusion including his numbers, the team he plays on, what came before him and the eye test test logically tells us he's our best option.

However, the dislike for him absolutely is.

I don't get this infatuation with Manziel from a philosophical standpoint. Is he a pocket QB? What exactly screams at people that our offense would cater to his skill-set? Have we ever called a QB roll-out in the last seven years? There are plenty of QBs that can run, RG3 and Vick included. But if you can't make the read on third progression, your going to suck.

And you can only buy time in the pocket for so long. The last QB to do it well is sitting in Dallas, coming off two back surgeries.

Most people don't even realize Manziel wasn't the Browns first pick in this draft.

No kidding, or that 99 other picks have been made. I got a kick out of Rich Eisen yesterday saying that he hadn't heard the name Manziel in 2 hours and something felt wrong.

I think a lot of people don't understand the tier system.

I bet Jerry is just spewing forth nonsense anyways for publicity and keeping the Cowboys and the NFL in the lime-light. Everybody was passing on Manziel.

Hill reported right after the draft the Cowboys had four players they were going after, not even considering Manziel. Two DTs, one LB and Martin.

Which I am absolutely convinced the DFW media was aching to do. I have no doubt whatsoever that they wanted him in Dallas as a spectacular failure.

The possibilities on how to sink his ship would have been unlimited once he was married to Jerry, Romo and Garrett.

Great point. And it would have been the same had they drafted Manziel. They would still be spewing forth nonsense. Same with every team. That is just how this stuff works.

The part I put in bold still remains to be seen. What happens if Romo can't play and Johnny Football is all that? The chances of Romo not being the same or getting hurt again are much higher than you think.

I think a lot of people don't understand the tier system.

I think Jerry and his collection of decision makers don't understand the risk/reward system. If you are going to make that move in the 2nd, go big by making it in the 1st and get Donald. Period. I watched the film on Lawrence. Smallish guy with great balance that has "potential". I sincerely hope he was worth that knee jerk.

Forget about all of the Manziel talk. It is over & done. One can only hope they still have eyes for a McCarron or Murray today. I, personally, would be fine with either one. That said, perhaps someone can explain our reluctance in the 1st to trade up and get Donald. Do we study as much as Manziel? We did not "need" oline so please spare me that smoke screen.
