So is the a serious injury that might not get better, or a degenerative issue like Leary?

Basically means that at any time the cartilage could just break away from the knee itself........once that happens, he is done playing football.

The ticking "time bomb" refers to the fact that the doctors don't know when this could happen. He could play 10 games or he could play 10 years, it is a roll of the dice for any team that drafts him.

Between Jack and the Notre Dame kid (both with major knee injuries), I bet you are going to start seeing a lot of college kids start taking out insurance polices in the coming years.

I can hear Broaddus telling his Trotter story now.

When he was a scout before he asked about Trotter and the docs told him it could be ten games or ten years.
Philly took a chance and he had some really good years for them and played in the league around ten plus years.

The gambling paid off for Philly and trotter... Might not for Jack.

After medical rechecks, Notre Dame's Jaylon Smith is not expected to play in 2016 and teams are unsure when he will play again, per sources.

The 2 best LB'S to come out in years and this happens. Very sad. I'm curious if they were smart enough to take out insurance policies as Leinart's Dad did on Matt when he came back for his Senior year?

Most of them already do take out insurance policies.

Jeremiah Trotter was not a first round pick, nor a top ten one though.

I doubt jack will be now either. But his story was not about draft spot or falling.... Just about taking a chance and it being a gamble.

Jack is a great gamble player but just not at four like people have been clamoring for months.

I know the impression is I don't like him, that's not the case when he gets removed from the discussion at four.

His abilities are quite impressive. If you are talking later on, then you can work with the issues of what he does or where he plays.
