The NFL took the players to the cleaners, last round of negotiations...right now, there is no guarantee that there will even be a 2020 NFL season. The players may boycott if a lot more of their demands are not granted...
Not sure this will fly with players and frankly I don't blame them. Why should they agree to two additional games when they can get paid the same money for 16 games. Concessions on the marijuana policy won't cut it either coz I'm sure players with say hell I don't smoke so why should agree to that. Just me, but the only way I see players agreeing this is new money from an additional percentage of revenues.

Report: NFL could push for 18-game schedule in labor talks

The NFL could seek an 18-game regular season or an expanded playoff field in a new labor deal, Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports. In return, Maske says, many owners are willing to offer players concessions to the commissioner’s disciplinary authority and to the marijuana policy.
Maske quoted a high-ranking official with one NFL team saying “some owners . . . would like to expand the season” to 18 games but added it’s not clear “if there is much support from the players on that.”

The NCAA would love that and move some more games to Sunday's and might get some more NFL fans back into the fold. I used to have to choose, Sat or Sun but not both. Since I've been doing both for 8 years now, there is too much of a good thing because I find myself running out of steam. You know
I actually wouldn’t be mad if the 2020 season was cancelled
Maybe they’ll come back with a better product
It will be the 2021 season..... next year will be played under the old CBA with a few changesYou know

I am looking forward to watching teams full of backups play in the playoffs, because all the starters are injured.
In all seriousness. If they want to do this. They need to drastically increase roster and practice squad size. To allow for more long term player development, and to decrease the amount of snaps per game players have to play.
Quite frankly I hate the idea. I also don’t like the fact that more games possibly decreases the importance of each game by a bit.
One of the reasons I love football is because of how important each game is. Every game matters. It’s not like baseball where there are too many games and who gives a crap if you lose a game in the first couple months of the season. Same for basketball and hockey.
If they want 18 games they need to cut the PS by 2 games, add another Bye Week and about 15 players to the game day roster
I agree with this. Another reason I don't like it is you can throw out the single-season records for the league. I know this happened before when they went from 14 to 16 games but I don't want to see it again. The rule changes they've made have already ruined the passing records but a player breaking the rushing record or the sack record in 18 games wouldn't mean much. Well, the sack record maybe because of Favre taking that dive for Strahan. Still disgusts me to this day.I am looking forward to watching teams full of backups play in the playoffs, because all the starters are injured.

Damn, I hated the two bye weeks and I agree with doing away with the Thursday games. Generally terrible. In 1993 the NFL had a year where each team had 2 bye weeks figuring that by adding a week to the regular season they'd generate more $ from the networks. They ditched it after that season because they had too many weeks with poor choices for the Sunday afternoon national games resulting in low ratings. Honestly I believe they have that problem now some weeks.
My preference would be to keep the 16 game schedule, get rid of the Thursday games except for the Thanksgiving Day games, and cut the preseason to 2 games. It won't happen because it might reduce revenue but IMO it would improve quality.
It is too muchI suspect it would be 18 regular season and 2 preseason

They should just go to 20 games, split the season into 2 halves with one in the fall and one in the spring, add 15-20 roster spots and then we could have football most of the year. It’d be higher quality football than late in an 18-game schedule
