I understand there are a lot of variables, but 3 years at 3.3 yds/carry in what should have been the prime of his career should exclude any player from consideration by the Cowboys as a potential major contributor. We tried that with Eddie George. He had averaged 3.23 yds/carry for the three years prior to us signing him, and his single season with the Cowboys resulted in 3.3 yds/carry. I think McFadden adds value as a versatile vet presence and a good pass blocker if he makes the team, but that's about it.

Stepping in for a comment...

Can't say I know how McFadden will do, or if he'll even hold up physically.

But regarding George; when he came to Dallas he was 4 years older than McFadden, in his 9 th year in the league after very heavy mileage, and going to a Dallas team that had no QB nor line anywhere near what McFadden would have in 2014.

With McFadden I say screw the numbers and just look at the physical ability he has.

I may be wrong. The stats may indicate the type of player he is. I just don't think they do.

I expect a back with his abilities to kill it on our team..

With him though injuries will be his biggest problem.

I don't see how anyone can simply "ignore the numbers". They show what he has and hasn't done at the NFL level.

They may not completely define him, but there's no way that they can be ignored.

Hey.. I may be wrong. I admit that.

I just think if he's healthy he'll kill it this year.

I think Oakland buries talent and the grind + losing all the time with a bad Oline will take it's toll on a guy.

I hope that is the case that the change will rejuvenate McFadden. This is a golden opportunity for him to be on a team who can run block and has a very good passing attack, the rest is on him.

There's no doubt the guy has his best chance ever for success at the NFL level.

I just can't completely disregard 7 years of proven futility by saying "well it's the Raiders!"

I'll be looking for him to be completely available all through training camp and the preseason. If he can't? I'd like to see another option.

Fair enough.

I just can't see a big back with receiving, blocking, power, and speed like that not having success here.

Is Chris Johnson better than Joseph Randle?

No, not today. So what's the point?

The only way I do this is on a McFadden-like deal. And Chris Johnson won't sign a McFadden-like deal.

Patience is a virtue at this point. The first two weeks of TC will tell the tale and we'll know if any of
the hired RB's move the needle. If not, I'm sure Will McClay will have his list on speed dial. From all
available reports and hints, CJ would like for the Boys to be interested in him but, I just think he's not
willing at this point to sign a "team friendly" 1 year prove it deal and I think Jerry & Stephen are not looking
to break the bank on any older running backs unless they come real cheap. I'm sure that if our current crop
doesn't pan out there will be someone new in here before we meet the Gints.

We share the same major concern about him - injury. He has a track record of having missed a lot of time due to injury and that's something that a contending team like ours - looking for answers at running back - simply can't afford.

Trust in Will. There's a plan A, B, C, D, and AP. I firmly believe that.

I think that a huge assumption.

Chris Johnson is a proven commodity at thee NFL level. A multiple 1,000 yard runner and a 2,000 yard rusher. He's started full seasons for the great majority of his career, missing just one game over 7 seasons. He is also a multiple Pro Bowler and first team All-Pro.

Joseph Randle is completely unproven at this level and has achieved none of those things.

The only way I do this is on a McFadden-like deal. And Chris Johnson won't sign a McFadden-like deal.

If he won't, he can look elsewhere, but that looks to be another assumption not supported by facts.

He's already made me cringe when holding his hammy during OTA's.

Me too. Much like Ryan Williams, if he shows early that he can't be counted on, I'm moving on and looking for other options.

Regarding the first part, if he's still that guy, he has a job already. He's not, and he doesn't. Randle is the much more certain play here because of the tread on his tires. Both are off-the-field worries.

And if he'd sign a McFadden-like deal, he'd DEFINITELY be somewhere already. He wants a bigger signing bonus, which would guarantee him the season. Teams probably are only interested in him on a game-by-game basis.

The Cowboys certainly looked at him when they looked at McFadden. They chose McFadden. That's it for now.

You really think AP is in the plans?
Or was that over my head ?

No, it's there lurking somewhere in the mist.

Watch how Minnesota comes out of the gate. If they're 2-5 and Dallas isn't tearing it up in the run game, then conversations could be had.

Still a lot of opinion and assumptions in there. Johnson may be on the downside of his career, but Randle hasn't even had one yet.

If that were the case, I wouldn't be signing to go to training camp either. There might be issues for why he's unsigned, but not being a good running back isn't one of them. His achievements and resume outdistances McFadden's in every way.

The Cowboys certainly looked at him when they looked at McFadden. They chose McFadden. That's it for now.

But that sure doesn't make them right about it.
