Rest starters or go for 12 wins?

Although, I disagree with his opinion on playing the starters, the scenarios he presented are accurate for us getting a first round bye. But they would also be equal to winning the lottery. The best odds we have would be both Seattle and Arizona losing which would make us the #2 seed REGARDLESS of if we win or lose vs Washington. All other odds are insanely astronomical.

His NFL link shows that the Boys have to WIN or TIE and Seattle/Arizona to lose to get the bye. That is incorrect according to many others on here plugging it in to the simulator. That's what I was pointing out to him. He seems to think we need to win to have any shot at a bye.

I guess we'll see how the Cowboys approach it on Sunday. We haven't been here in a very long time. Arbitrarily resting people makes me nervous. The whole redstinks playing ditty argument doesn't make any sense to me. They had an equal chance to play that way as spoilers for the Eagles and they played straight up. Screw records. I'm just nervous about going into our first playoff game off kilter. This team has never been where they are right now before as a team. They need as many opportunities as they can get to maintain momentum. I hope the starters are allowed to ball on Sunday. All game? No... One half? I would love to see it. (Minus Demarco)

Last two times we played the Commanders they have broken Tony's back - don't want to give them a chance to go 3 for 3

If given the choice between taking week 17 off or having a 1st round bye, I would rather have a 1st round bye in the playoffs where the stakes are insanely high. I would rather sit back and enjoy watching the wildcards duke it out in the 1st win or go home round... Week 17 shows me nothing in terms of absolutes. If I take week 17, it's a pansy way of pulling out a bye. Then I have to go play in that 1st week where the stakes are amped. Sue me for feeling this way but if I still have a chance to potentially kick back and enjoy watching other teams go through that 1st round gauntlet I play for it.

But it is NOT a choice between the two. We can get the bye with a loss as well.

So we play it out. There are plenty of scenarios that line up but winning gives us a better chance.

ONLY by such a small percentage to be immaterial. Green Bay and Detroit have to TIE in order for a Cowboy win to matter ( 1st seed ). I'm not sure what the odds are for two good offenses to have a game end in a tie but I'd imagine it would be less than 1%. NOT worth risking injury for IMO.

So basically you are saying you understand the odds of getting a bye are 1 in a million but you don't care and think we still have a shot. Ok, that is cool.. everyone has an opinion. " So you're saying there's a chance. You and this guy would get along great......

Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying and thanks for referring to one of my ATF movies. Cutesy.

Uhmm... Can you explain to me how we earned a bye with that win over the Colts? Because NFL.Com tells a different story and one I tend to trust a tad more.

Once again, with the exception of DeMarvelous, we should play our starters for the 1st half to try and establish grounds for that 12th win. We still do have a chance for a 1st rd bye and shouldn't shut it down with that still looming..

http://www.nfl.com/playoffs/playoff-picture

  • REMAINING OPPONENTS: at Commanders (4-11)
  • COMMENT:
Dallas clinches home-field advantage throughout NFC playoffs with:
    1) DAL win + ARI loss or tie + DET/GB tie

Dallas clinches a first-round bye with:
    1) DAL win + SEA loss or tie + ARI loss or tie OR
    2) DAL win + DET/GB tie OR
    3) DAL tie + SEA loss + ARI loss OR
    4) DAL tie + SEA tie + ARI loss or tie + DET/GB does not end in a tie

You are taking me a little too literally.

What I was inferring was that by beating the Colts in week 16..

we essentially created a 'bye' GAME for ourselves as in rendering the game meaningless.

Meaning we don't have to show up with any starters for the game.

Play 2nd and 3rd string guys from the opening tip.

Do that..

we avoid injuries that could diminish us going forward.

I realize the league may not like that.

But tough.

And its going to be a lynch mob mentality with their team in limbo with RGIII and the head coach.

I say no mas...

no mas.

I completely see your point as well as that of the others that are dead set on calling this a bye week. I would prefer to play it differently. Period. I would rather continue to place ourselves in the best possible position to avoid the 1st round of the playoffs.

Week 17?
1st round?

Hmmm. I would rather bury Washington and find ourselves in a position for a 1st round bye by winning vice shutting it down. My opinion won't change. Go Cowboys.

This is what concerns me. The last 2 times Romo has faced the Commanders, he's gotten injured.

He had no offensive line. Zero. Zilch. Did anyone from the Colts even touch Romo last week? The Oline is dialed in and I prefer to ensure they remain that way.

I say play the game as if it meant something. If I'm not mistaken it could possibly improve our position in playoffs. Plus I would really love to see the offense shove that sellout blitz up Hasslet's .... well you know.

I actually want the starters to play for as long as it takes to secure a victory. This team is a machine, and the machine not operating as normal on game-day, well that does not compute to the machine, it doesn't understand that logic...

My perfect scenario for Sunday would be,
Cowboys - 24
Skins - 23

Romo throws 3 interceptions, cowboys barely hang on (they were never going to give Romo the MVP anyway, even though he deserves it)... DeMarco Murray fumbles... Defense looks mediocre at best... And the OL looks average at best... The media immediately jumps off the Dallas bandwagon...

This game is a chance to dispose of any bad mojo... The Cowboys do seem to play better when the sports world is against them. This team is different though than previous Dallas teams, we have what good teams have, which is certain elements of our game that we can hang our hats on...

Nonetheless, the hated Commanders beat us in our house, we have unfinished business!
