Still have 34 years lol hopefully I can even retire by then and social security isn't gone.

Best advice I can give you right now is to NOT count on Social Security. Consider that a bonus if it is there when you retire but DO NOT RELY ON IT. You have the time to save enough to be quite comfortable.

Even if you only save say $50 a month - in 30 years that is $18,000 without interest. Put that into stocks that are not risky or too conservative (there are good funds for that) and by the time you retire you would have enough to do a lot of things.

But above all else rely on no one other than yourself to fund your retirement.

My father has been retired for five years. It was not his time but now looking back at it, he looks at it as a blessing in disguise. And he is enjoying it.

My mom due to her lupus retired or forced retired in 1995 and how that she has not held a real job as family and grandchildren are the main reasons and focuses on her life.

Hope you enjoy retirement. And hear it is a blessing in disguise even if you do not retire in your own time. My parents are much more busier as well as happier over being retired.

Could imagine living somewhere else than the good ole USA.

Some traveling outside the country? Yeah.

But there's so little of this country I've seen.

And going somewhere where English isn't the main language? No way.

So I guess that rules out southern Florida? LOL!

LMAO. I was just about to type that until I read your last quote.

Thanks for the advice, the one thing I did right, was prepare for this financially. I won't even qualify for Social Security for another 14 years. Salud!

It won't affect me much. I've got another pension. I don't even qualify for ss. I need a few quarters more to qualify. If i do receive any thing from ss, it will be reduced from my pension. So there! Lol

yea, you are well positioned for retirement.
same thing as my father's pension.
my folks retired between 50-55.
though they are really really really bored.
done with the traveling after 5 years and my father refuses to get on cruises now most of the time.

i never counted on SS, and actually surprised it still exists...

My parents retired at 56, they moved out to their ranch. Got bored six months later and moved back home. They traveled a bit in Europe
They did fine for 20 years. Mom passed in 2013. Dad still going strong. He invested well and actually has a lot more money now than when he retired in 1993. I hope he taught me well.

you are really lucky.
beyond financial security, your parents sound happy.

my father is the classic case of the manager back home needing someone to manage :(
very bad for everyone's blood pressure.
he has done chemistry research as a hobby for 15 years, but little things get magnified at home into boardroom decisions.
he does not golf or fish or enjoy yard work.
so it is watching news programs that repeat themselves every hour.

My dad ran a factory, he was a hardass. I caught myself using alot of his techniques when i became an athletic director and head football coach.

yes and the key is it appears he found stuff to take up his energy.
My daughter was born in 2000, around the time they were starting to bounce off the walls. They took care of her as a baby and my dad picked her up from school every day up until last year. He credits her for extending my moms life and his sanity. I always tell him to remember that when he updates his will. Lol
