Brees did exactly what Weeden should have been doing. He threw 5 to 7 yard pick routes and out routes all game. Eventually the Cowboys rushers were exhausted. Why Weeden can't do that all game is beyond me. Without the ball control of the Romo led offense, this defense is in serious trouble.

The Patriots are going to do nothing but what Brees did all game long, only better.

Here's a preview of Brady's stats;

36-42 315 4TDs with a 2/3rds TOP edge.

He's going to have a 80% completion percentage throwing underneath to little WR's Carr will naturally play 10 yards off all game. Not very excited about this week.

1. I never saw Brees panic and run himself into a sack like Weeden. Weeden often look like a chicken with his head cut off.
2. Brees moves the LBs and S with his eyes away from his guy before he dumps off to give him a chance to pick up yards. On the other hand if Weeden's first read isn't open he dumps off immediately.

But that's the difference between a potential HOF QB vs a NFL backup.

I think much of it is coaches playing it close to the vest with Weeden. However I saw them open it up a little more vs NO than Alt and I think that is due to increasing confidence in Weeden that he will not make the bonehead throws. Dallas knows they have no chance at all if Weeden is out there throwing picks so I think they have kept him on a short leash but the more he shows I think the more they will trust him and be more aggressive with him

He did hit the long pass to Butler, and connected to Witten down the field. The same play they missed in the Falcons game. So yes, agree, building up that confidence in him, as well as his own confidence.
Also went to TWill down field more. Plus the TD catch.
I think they will take more shots this week, stretch the field, to get the running game going.
I wouldn't mind seeing a reverse out of the spread fomation.

We got away with one pick play. Let's don't push it. If we did as many as the Saints did they would take away draft picks.

No kidding, after the alt game fans went off on Weeden for the dinks and dunks. This game he still hit a lot of short passes but also went deep something some were claiming Weeden was incapable of. I guess Weeden is going to be ripped no matter what

There's a difference between throwing a 6 yard pass on 3rd and 10, and throwing a 6 yard pass on first down. Brees took a two step drop, turned and delivered a quick pass to a slot guy cutting underneath for at least 6-7 yard gain alot. He had so many 2nd and 3 or 4 yards all day.

Weeden's short dump offs are slower swing passes or right over the middle passes. It's more the game plan is an issue than Weeden at times. They've got to eat more clock.

Marinelli should mix in some zone blitz. That can disrupt the 3-step quick-fire passing.
The last time he did that Jack Crawford ended up covering Freeman and the Falcons got like 40 yards.

Dallas defense sucked, we were not tackling that is what made Brees short passes successful. Weeden was able to hit big plays with Dunbar vs Alt however Alt clamped down on it and unlike the Cowboys they actually were making the tackles. You would be surprised how good you can make another team look when you can't tackle anyone

only against some teams. GB is doing it all the time as does the Pats and somehow few get called there.

The way Gaetcher ( sp) got picked should have been called. The Saints player ran right into him, and threw his hands up in a fake" oh oh" moment.

lots of teams in the league are going to the short passing game helps to beat the pass rush and a qb don't have to be real accurate throwing a 6 yard pass.

Well, a lot of fans do think they know what is best over the coaches and FO....I keep reading it on here every day.

Yep. I'm greatly surprised that a number of them aren't currently working as NFL coaches/GM's, given their great knowledge of how to coach/manage an NFL team.

ok, let me take a stab at this. Pick/rub routes, all routes for that matter, are called in by the OC. So if you want to the Cowboys to run pick/rub routes and/or out routes, that's on the OC and not Weeden. Unless he calls an audible. Weeden wasn't our problem in either game he played. Not sure why some of you want to put all/most of the blame on him.

There are many worse backup QBs than Weeden and maybe even a few starters. Weeden has been solid this year. If the entire team was healthy besides Romo, we'd be 4-0 this year. But the fact is, we've been decimated by injuries and the units that are relatively healthy have not been playing well. We're tied with Washington and a half game up on NY. We're gonna lose this New England game, but I'd feel much better about our chances going forward if we can clean up somec areas (O-line, run game) and look strong in other areas where we're getting some guys back (D-line, LBers). When you're relying on your backup QB, you have to help him out by playing strong in other areas. But we've been awful in other areas.

If I am opposing team I am looking at the tape and building a plan to blitz the living heck out of Weeden.

If you get him off of his spot, his ability to move in the pocket and avoid rushers a really bad.

Exactly, so why compare the two? We have our backup in and he isn't playing that bad. If he was on the same level as Brees then he wouldn't be our backup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because our fan base Weeden haters will say he is a dink and dunk QB.....

Who gives a crap what they say.............

And to the original poster........Every team we've played excluding the egirls has dink and dunked us.

Counter to the 'Rushmen' approach. It's hard on all of the defense when the ball is being released in 2 seconds or less.

We shoulda seen this coming a mile away.

We've had success this season just taking the high percentage stuff and matriculating the ball down the field, as they say. Problem is, or problems are, really, when we had Romo in there he was capable of overcoming those third and long situations our sloppiness was getting us into. Brandon cannot. Second problem is, we no longer have Dunbar there to help with the mismatches.

The criticism of Weeden taking the short passes was unfair all along. He's just a limited dude. We're going to have to find a way to win with the sorts of passes he can complete. He does not do well when a play breaks down (he's ok on the designed roll outs), he doesn't pump fake, and he doesn't look players off. It takes him long enough to just make the reads. But he can deliver the ball, and he's gotten better at not making stupid throws.

If we can't support him with inordinate pressure on Brady, there's no way we win this game. And I'm dubious we're getting enough firepower back to put enough pressure on Tom Brady. We're looking at Jason's first 3 game losing streak this week, folks. Unless we somehow win a turnover battle v. New England by at least 2 turnovers.

He dropped DE Jack Crawford in coverage on the RB while Lee blitzed in the Atlanta game and the RB caught the ball and had one of the biggest yardage gains of the game.

Well when you watch the coaches tape and see that he's quickly checking down and missing wide open TEs and WRs, that kind of doesn't really help his cause.

Like the Falcons game, there were apparently a few seam routes that were again wide open and Weeden just flat out missed them. He has to make some of those plays.
