Booo! If Garrett is the answer, then give him the job now and get solid coordinators under him!

I doubt many think he's the answer right now. They just wanted to get him on the staff.

The main problem I see is if it limits us in being able to hire a younger HC, since they would likely be looking over their shoulder all the time.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the prime candidate for defensive coordinator if Rex was head coach would probably be Mike Singletary.

oh man...wouldn't that be great?

I think he is Assistant HC/DC at San Fran. They would have to grant permission.

Folks say that -- but I'm not buying that SF is going to let him go.

I know -- he hasn't even interviewed for DC there and all that . But if he's as hot a candidate as folks say I doubt he gets out of SF.

One guy coached the leagues #1 defense

The other guy coached the #10 unit

The Cowboys' biggest issue is a broken defense

Why not get the guy who did the best job coaching it?

Phillips has had and blown two opportunities already

Why not give a younger, more energetic guy his first chance?

Phillips D was just as dominating as the Ravens this yr, and they played a tougher schedule...Phillips D's have been good everywhere he's been..Ryan only has a couple yrs to look at

as for the blown opportunity, if 10, 11 and 8 wins is "blowing it" whats 6, 9 and 9 wins?

I'm not saying Ryan would be bad...but he is no better a candidate than some of the others being talked about...but if Ryan is ANYTHING like his dad was as a HC, we definitely dont want the guy.,..his dad was Dave Campo with better talent

Can you or someone else explain the new "fist pump" angle to me?

I have no idea what this is about.

He's Assistant HC and Linebackers coach. I guess the AHC title makes it a lateral move. That's complete BS of course.

Edit (for Hos): Fist pump = young, hungry coach

hahaha...I've been searching for a good picture of Andy Reid fist pumps, so we could get a good idea of the fat guy fist pumps we could expect from Ryan. You know the type--the immobile, confident, shake of the closed fist? Unfortunately I haven't been able to find one.

But with Singletary, we could get the running, jumping, I'm an athlete fist pump--sort of a suped up version of Payton's fist pump

Sorry, but the Ravens "D" was a markedly better unit - just look at the numbers. And Baltimore didn't get to beat up on the hapless Raiders twice either.

The fact is that the guy has had not one, but two chances already. Ryan hasn't had his first yet.

Ryan has coached a great defensive unit in Baltimore for about 7 years, from the defensive line up to defensive coordinator.

Both he and his brother are doing great jobs coaching defense.

I wouldn't hold his father's mistakes against Rex anymore than I would hold what Bum Phillips did over his son Wade.

Spot on! Get the best candidate to coach the team now, not some lame duck that may have to step aside if/when Garret is ready!

I found it!

This is the variety of fist pump we could expect from Ryan. Calm, confident, assertive.

fist-pumping is the key ingredient in any winning coach, it shows great leadership, motivaton, and firer-upper skills, w/o precise fist-pumps, you're a boob

They just mentioned it on NFL Live a couple of minutes ago. Deion Sanders is apparently trying to get JJ to get him in for an interview. Expect and interview to be lined up within the week. That's the just of what I heard.

OMG

Jerry jones is taking advice from deion sanders?

OMG

I am going to have to move home and buy bills season tickets if that is the case...

No buddy ryan offspring should be considered, no matter if he is the next vince lombardi or not.

not only is it the key ingredient for coaches, but for winning in general

look at Tiger Woods...his fist pumping is second to none
