Well it's getting interesting if they actually interview Ryan. All I know if Garrett is that good as the "OC" then I really want a "D" guy as HC to concentrate on our "D" being as good as I think they can be.

Sorry, but the Ravens "D" was a markedly better unit - just look at the numbers. And Baltimore didn't get to beat up on the hapless Raiders twice either.

you know your right they didnt...they beat up on Oakland once and Cleveland twice

The fact is that the guy has had not one, but two chances already. Ryan hasn't had his first yet.

yeah he's had two chances...he coached 5 yrs, had 3 playoff teams...Buffalo hasnt made it since he left

Ryan has coached a great defensive unit in Baltimore for about 7 years, from the defensive line up to defensive coordinator.

so? Wade Phillips has great defense everywhere he goes...new coaches...ne players...same results virtually everywhere

Both he and his brother are doing great jobs coaching defense.

Buddy did too...

I wouldn't hold his father's mistakes against Rex anymore than I would hold what Bum Phillips did over his son Wade.

whats that about the apple not falling far from the tree? as FYI though, Bum was actually a very good HC...he had several really good teams in Houston

You guys are nuts if you think Ryan or Singletary are coming here. No way Jerry get's those two. Not a chance.

Yeah, I've been holding out hope we're waiting for the SB to be over and talk with Rivera, or even work out something with Lovie.

But, it's more than likely we're just waiting for Norv to get finished coaching in the Senior Bowl tomorrow. I bet JJ hires him no later than Tuesday.

I would be firmly on board bringing in Ryan. I'll even drive the bandwagon if need be. Ryan and Riveria are the two best choices out there.

That being said ... Its apparently not about getting the best man available, but rather the best former Cowboy available. So I don't see either one of them standing much of a chance.

FWIW, as to who is better, Ryan or Phillips, they're both good. San Diego and Baltimore were the only defenses this season to break the 60 sack marker. San Diego had 61 and Baltimore with 60. No one else was even close. The next highest team was Miami with 47.

why? if Dallas ends up talking to ryan...and somehow it gets to the point where he is offered the job...you think he turns down a HC job and one with the cowboys?

And for all of his flaws, Buddy Ryan was one of the greatest defensive minds the NFL has ever seen. Amazing how we can only use his "negatives", huh?

Your inability to admit wrong in any way is amazing - childlike actually.

I'm not here criticizing Wade Phillips, I think he would do a good job repairing the defense.

I just don't see the upside in hiring a 60 year old coach who has had two opporunities and lost both.

I do see upside with the 42 year old Ryan who has earned a chance as a head coach.

The fact is that Ryan's defense was better in every way - other than 1 sack - than Phillips' unit in San Diego. Most of the numbers aren't close.

I think either candidate would help the Cowboys' ailing defense, but I would rather a younger guy with upside.
