Richard Sherman on Dez Bryant: "Incredible Talent"...Vid Post #37

He's a tool, and he will say nice things about Dez until Dez does something to tick him off and he will flip on a dime. And no, the league would not be boring if they were all like Demarcus Ware, it would be full of the right kind of guys.

A league with all players like Demarcus Ware is a league with no personality

They hate on him because he makes them uncomfortable. They don't like his confidence. They don't like that he doesn't care that they don't like his confidence. And he's comfortable in his own skin. Plus he's a 4.0 student. I'm a big fan.
If he was as comfortable and confident as you say, he wouldn't have to tell everyone how great he is.

I don't agree. It depends on what we mean when we say "like Demarcus Ware." I don't think anyone is speaking LITERALLY are they? I mean, like clones? But if you mean character and personality TRAITS, then yea, I would take a whole league of them.

You are probably too young to remember, but there was a time when athletes prided themselves on being humble (I know, sounds like double talk, but it was true) and being about the team. Brash is actually something relatively new in American athletics. Kind of started with the Joe Namath era stuff (there have always been exceptions, like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, etc... but I'm talking what most characterizes an approach to athletics in any given era). So confidence is not the same as being brash. Confidence is not telling everyone how great you are. The most confident people in the world don't have to tell you, they just go do it and let you tell everyone afterward.

Oh well .... I guess that knocks Muhammed Ali out of this "historic" conversation.

He didn't destroy Skip Bayless. He kept saying abstract garbage like "I'm beating you at life" and refused to move on with an actual interview. In my eyes, he killed his own reputation with that nonsense, not Skip's. All he wanted was an argument, and when Skip said "ok fine, you win" he just kept rambling on and on. It was one of the dumbest, least mature things I've ever seen in a sports interview.

That, in a nutshell, was the epitome of why I'm not a Sherman fan.

Well Bayless more times than not baits those guys. He wants to get trashy with them. You can tell by his demeanor that he loves that type of thing. He thinks he's smarter than he really is.

Dez is probably the most respected WR in the league, and I dont just mean by the praise he gets before games. Watch a Falcon or Bengal games, you rarely see Julio or Aj get blanketed to the same degree Dez gets, only healthy Calvin is close with the amount of detail opposing defenses give

Because on top of his immense talent, Dez's team feeds off his passion and energy.

Richard Sherman is a very intelligent man, but nothing about him strikes me as genuine. His on-screen personality comes off as excessively cultivated.

Dez says he's the best in the game in a different way than Sherm ( as I expect all players to be individuals) just like Sherm teammates feed off him. That's part of the game and how the best and the tightest teams succeed. I agree with you.

You have to give it to a guy that says he's the best then proves it.
Give what to him? Is he a great player? Yea.

Doesn't mean I have to appreciate how he acts off the field.

No, I think Ali was an exception (I loved Ali as a boxer, btw, was my favorite at the time). I'm talking about what most characterizes an approach to athletics in any given era (I know you read it because you included it in your post). If you take the brashness, the talk, the exhibitions on the field (including after any good play and sometimes after average plays) and compare it with past eras, I think you will have to agree I'm right to say that things have definitely shifted.

Btw, Ali also kind of makes my point, because when was Ali doing his thing in the largest way? Late 60's throughout the 70's? When did Namath do his thing? Same time period.

Richard Sherman is a good guy. He is smarter than people realize and is a fantastic player.

He's a lot smarter than people realize. Because of his rants on the field people think he's an idiot. Great ball player. Gonna be fun Sunday.

Does he beat children? Beat women? Do drugs? What exactly does he do to make you despise him so much? Act with emotion?
Good grief, talk about a ridiculous escalation.. I never said hate. Go read my other posts in this thread I've basically already answered that question.

But, in short, I don't believe he acts with emotion. Everything he says and does is calculated and superficial. I don't like anyone like that. I didn't say give him the chair.

This is true.

I mentioned in a tread earlier that I expected both guys would show respect and that's what we are seeing

I'm not surprised by this. Sherman is a great player and he reconizes the talent of other great players. I am a big fan of Sherman but I'm hoping Dez puts it on him and the entire Seattle secondary this week.
