There is zero skill involved with the tush push and it's so close to unstoppable it's really not fair. Because the QB is behind the center the offense can basically plow at least four players into two defensive tackles. The linebackers can't get low enough to do anything about it and basically roll off the top of the pile.

There's no competitive advantage for the defense here and the only way it fails is if the QB loses his footing somehow or fumbles.

It needs to be taken out of the game.
There is skill involved in that play. The Eagles have some really good players on their line. Literally one of them was an Australian Rules Footie player. These guys can scrum.

The line we had to run out there Sunday wouldn't be able to execute that

The play won't go away until there is a serious injury resulting from it.

It's unstoppable if you have the best oLine and a QB that can squat 600lbs. The problem is....only one team has that.

I saw an article last week about this very thing...with gifs of other teams attempting to copy them, and failing.

So other teams aren't doing it because they don't want to expose the QB to hits (Hurts really doesn't get hit much on that play, there's just dudes laying all over him, but its not hits per se....much less dangerous than standing back in the pocket while blind side rushers are flying at you while your eyes are downfield) they don't do it because they can't.
Just wait till Hurts rips a knee in the middle of the scrum. You'll never see the play again...

Eventually, they’ll probably ban it. The fact they’re continuing to monitor it points in that direction. You can push, but you’re not supposed to pull. However, I have seen an occasion or two where players appear to be pulling the QB along.
If more teams start using it, I think that would get the ball rolling. Surprised that more are not.

A lot of it comes down to the QB you have. Reports are Hurts can squat a ton of weight so he has some leg drive.

I still want to see us do it with Lance. Make him the active No. 2 QB during games and let him just run the tush push. I know some have said use Luepke, but I think it creates more options that the defense has to consider to have a QB in there.

Not sure Lance would be better suited for the tush push than the QB we have. I said prior to the season I wouldn’t be surprised if they come up with a package or two for Lance in the redzone, that gives him the option to run or throw. With the redzone issues we’ve it’s likely to happen at some point during the season. Jerry said the day they made the trade he could help us now or into the future. He’s going to want to get Lance on the field this season for at least a play or two as a situational QB. We see teams around the league doing it.

It's fair. Any team can do it...

Another problem with it is that even when it was stopped (like the Bucs game early) the refs can't tell where the ball is, and see him in the endzone (even if it was after the whistle) and give the TD (or 1st down in those cases).

Interesting thing is it seems the Eagles have a copyright on this play because I don't recall other teams using this play.

It should be taken out the game if the defense can't do it on FGs and any other situation in the game.

Here's the issue though... 4 teams tried this play week 1 and went 0-4. Only the Eagles have made it unstoppable

I have really only seen the Eagles do it. Other teams might not want to expose their QB to a huge pile up, others might not even practice it.

The NFL created a penalty for removing your helmet because other teams' feelings got hurt when Emmitt Smith did it after scoring touchdowns.

But the Eagles can do something palpably unfair that impacts the outcomes of games and all it gets from the league is a collective shrug. And a corny nickname.
The NFL banned removing helmets because they don’t want players to individualize and market themselves above the NFL. NFL is marketed through their team branding and to an extent the star QB.

Also removing helmets might impede progress / flow of the game.

Sports like UFC/NBA is marketed through the players individualism.

So I was watching this play the other day very carefully. So while the defensive linemen are engaged you have a second guy diving at their knees, I thought this was penalty. It's literally the o line chop blocking the entire d line.
They don't chop block. A chop block is when you are engaged in a block and another blocker comes and takes out your knees. They aren't chop blocking

The play was banned originally, how they made it legal i have no way of knowing. Assisting the runner was a penalty, pushing, pulling, carrying, whatever...... Anyway, should be banned again.

if the runners forward motion is stopped at any point the they should whistle it dead and spot the ball there.
oftentimes the runner is stopped cold, and then others start pushing and pile goes forward.
That is part of the problem, on qb sneaks, and with rb runs.

Phil almost always does it to left of center, so who do they have there?
Hurts uses standard method, look for the gap and get low.
However since no whistle is blown if he is stopped, then the whole pile can be pushed forward after being stopped initially.
Hurts is often getting the 1st by himself, but if stopped short, the guys behind can push him forward.

Other teams should be able to do this too, but evidently they ( the coaches ) just are not smart enough to implement it.
It isnt rocket science lol So that is the only answer I see.
Sadly this includes the cowboys lol.

Whats considered engaged? Cause if you're one on one and a second o linemen is diving at your lower body, that's a chop block.
