They might intentionally not play him most of the preseason in hopes of stashing him on PS. Don't give other teams tape to study.

How is it a myth? Especially for a player like Rico who has no college football tape. No team is going to put him on their 53 (if we cut him to sign to PS) without seeing how he does versus NFL competition.

Plenty of teams had a look at him before the draft.
He's not being hidden. He's just not ready to block against competition.

True, which means many would probably have loved to have him in camp to evaluate him but it's highly unlikely any team will give him a spot on their 53 without seeing him play. I don't really think you can hide a lot of players but in his case you certainly can. If you don't play him in the preseason, no team will be the least bit interested in him. They will stick with the TEs who they have had in camp and know their offense.

He got in a few snaps last night late in the game. Nothing was ran for him (in terms of throws) and I watched him specifically blocking at the line and he did fine. I don't know what folks are really expecting from the guy this year; he's a development prospect through-and-through.

Doesn't that completely contradict the reasoning behind taking him in the 6th round of the draft?

The reason we took him in the 6th round was to prevent other teams from signing him as an UFA. We knew teams were going to be lining up to get him based on his physical profile. So we guaranteed he'd be on our roster by drafting him. But that is very different from playing him extensively in preseason and giving 31 teams tape on how he fares against NFL competition after not having played football since junior high. I just don't think there is any team that is going to cut a player from their top 53 without having had Rico in their camp or having a lot of tape of him against NFL competition.

What makes you think any amount of preseason tape would cause any of those 31 teams to change their mind about him then? The guy hasn't played football since middle school. Believe it or not, sometimes the most obvious answer is the right one.
