not to take anything away from Rico, but clear mismatch there.. he should win that 9/10

I think that's the point. He's a clear mismatch against 95%+ of the defenders he'll see in coverage.

It's just nice to see it in real action as opposed to against air. Nice to see Dak have confidence to sling it in there and even better to see Rico make the catch with his hands confidently in traffic.

well maybe and I hope that comes to fruition. would love to see some Jaylon vs. Rico matchups to see how he fares against bigger, yet still very athletic players

Rico runs like 4.75 or so.
That should not be too fast for LB though their coverage skills would not be as good.
But he still outweighs most LB by 20-40lbs...

Slow might be oversimplifying it. Most LB's are not quick or athletic enough to cover the basketball-player type TE's, meaning coverage isn't their specialty. There are a handful of guys in the league who I can think of that have the size, speed, & athleticism to match-up with these types of players, maybe a Kam Chancellor, Alec Ogletree, Ryan Shazier, and Deone Bucannon. Byron Jones might be in that conversation too, and the other UConn safety the Raiders just drafted.

God, Dak looks fat...
That was Dak!?!

I thought we had brought in Jared Lorenzen from Kentucky for camp fodder.

Not worried about Rico straight line speed. He shows good quickness in and out of breaks. I think his basketball skills help him quite a bit where the game is not about all out speed but quickness and working in tight space

Yeah, he's going to have to make his living posting up and boxing out linebackers and safeties. His hands are going to have to be good to make it since he'll probably have to make a lot of contested catches.

He needs to really be learning from Witten the nuances of escaping coverage — selling routes and pressing DBs with his body and arms to create separation. Fortunately for him, Witten being a slower tight end should give him a good model for his game.

Is Rico considered shifty/quick? Not talking straight-line speed, rather Beasley-type quickness (albeit on a much larger frame). The quick-twitch variety.

@xwalker, or anyone else, would you happen to know?
No he isn't shifty or quick.

He'll win with size, length, and ball skills / athleticism.

He's a nice prospect but quickness isn't his game.

Thanks, Asthma. I thought that because he played college hoops, he may have had some quickness in his game that may have transfered to the NFL. Ah well, dude's still a freak with soft hands :)

He isn't very quick but he has a significant size advantage:

Height is not conducive to change of direction. It is about physically impossible to be quick when you're 6'7" tall.

You can be quick for a tall guy... but you can't be like Beasley or Switzer quick.
