Rob: Haven’t seen Gathers get much work with Prescott. He’s been running behind Geoff Swaim and Blake Jarwin and primarily getting work with Mike White and Cooper Rush. He’s made some plays in the short to intermediate passing game but has told me he’s got to show improvement as a blocker in this camp first and foremost.

yay!

He said it again today? He's said that before, a month, or two ago.
Looks like his mind is pretty much made...
Or Gathers is just that raw. Look, he has athletic ability. But he cannot do the little things, how can you justify keeping him as an active 53 player?

Ok.. so is he blocking better. He has had 2 years. I could have learned to block effectively by now.
Kinda feels like you're being sarcastic. But honestly if Rico was not on a run first team he would make the roster no question. Still might if he can be reliable in the red zone like he was in blue white game

I can't. Honestly...
Not if the other 3 guys are still outplaying him in practice.

Rico definitely seemed to block better in the red zone, compared to Swaim and Jarwin. Then again, Rico was going up against the 2s and 3s, not the 1s like Swaim and Jarwin were.

Whats the little things? Its 2018 it's a passing league with dynamic playmakers at the te position. That's what we need, not another witten.
If you can show me a functional roster that has a TE that "just catches passes" do tell. There is blocking, ST duty, you name it. Find me this one team that has that.

Give me a few more roster spots, I would love to keep a one trick pony.

Might as well call and make him a WR then and let him compete with those guys.
Their assignments are different... I'm sure you already know.

This happens to be a run first team. Unless Dak makes you want them to be a pass first team...

He didn't play college ball. Rob Gronkowski been in the league for awhile and still isn't a great blocker.
Gronk is a giant reciever, but that's what Brady needs.
The Patriots aren't a fun dominant team needing everyone being required to block.

This is a protect the QB and any deficiencies he may have Offense.
With Tony it was his gunslinger ways and protecting the ball.
With Dak it's protecting pretty much everything. Meaning the offense is trying to put Dak in the most favorable situation as possible at all times.
Not being behind the chains... Allowing effective mis-directions... play-actions... Safe throws. Effective throws. Keeping the ball.
Never mind that he lead the league is Pick 6's last year...
I blame no one and everyone for that.

Lol...

If he is limited to being just a “receiving tight end” than opposing teams shouldn’t find it difficult to apply some sort of coverage formation that can take Rico out of the play. Now with his size and athleticism I am sure he can muscle his way in the red zone. I find our red zone play calling to be horrible more so.
