News: Rico gets it!

lol

All due respect, but some of y'all Rico haters are straight clowns.
No no. I am actually a fan. I want this kid to win. The chances he got last preseason he looked good. I was surprised he didn’t get regular season opportunities. I am just over the hiding him on IR or PS. Put him in the game. I was hearing that his blocking has improved. But nothing but silence has been coming from camp. They are working him in the back of the line. We will see what he has in less than a week. Something tells me that he will get a good work load this preseason. Including blocking. But if he hasn’t improved his blocking by now then it’s on him.

Ok.. so is he blocking better. He has had 2 years. I could have learned to block effectively by now.

I agree. They've turned LBs into FBs in an offseason. Rico should be a great blocker by now. But he's not.

But this is the first time showing improvement on blocking has been *first and foremost* for him.

For years, he's been talking about making them big plays, instead of blocking. When asked about blocking, he said "Jimmy Graham don't block" (or some other TE).

Rico finally gets it. He needs to learn how to block *first and foremost*. That should have come when he was first signed. The coached should have drilled that into him. But alas, they failed, in that, as in so many other things.

The progress is late, but at least it's progress.

It was always about blocking for Rico. If he can block, he's a big blocking TE with soft hands. That's a guy who can get on the field. If he can't block, he's a slow, plodding WR who can't run routes. That's a guy who can't get on the field.

It's a process.......I think with Rico though, it will most likely be at the same speed as our GM and HC have been on.

I still worry Rico goes on to dominate as a receiving TE for some other team, while we're hungup on just his blocking. Everyone should be given equal opportunity with the first team offense.

It often takes college WR all stars years to learn the NFL route tree. Some never learn it at all.

Rico was not going to stroll into the NFL and be a receiving all star. He could have strolled in, learned to block, learned some short routes, and been an asset in short yardage as a dual threat for blocking and receiving. That would have given him a career to develop his receiving skills.

Blocking was always Rico's path to the field.

I am ready to move on from Gathers. If he was going to be the next Gates he would have already shown something by now.

You can hype him all you want, sure he is athletically gifted. He is just not a football player.

He came, we saw, time to move on.

A passing team, will snatch him from waivers. He will never clear them to be on the ps again. Because he seems to have good hands, and will be used in the red zone, because of his hands, and size.

was the title of the thread supposed to be "rico gets cut"....becuase that would be more believable

Sounds like we should keep him then.

If you can show me a functional roster that has a TE that "just catches passes" do tell. There is blocking, ST duty, you name it. Find me this one team that has that.

Give me a few more roster spots, I would love to keep a one trick pony.
Tony Gonzalez was a HOF and he couldn't block for ****. Antonio Gates didn't block. Giants have evan engram. Skins have Reed not a great blocker. Gronk isnt a great blocker. Kelce isnt a great blocker. Not for nothing in the past 3 years wittens blocking was something to be desired. The game has changed and having a big fast TE that can stretch the seam and is a playmaker is another threat the defense has to account for. He should at least make the 53 and should see some time on passing downs.

Yes I am sure that a random internet poster could effectively learn how to block at the NFL level ever, much less in 2 years.

For the record, Rico's blocking is not his challenge. His challenge is knowing what to do and going out and doing it. Athletically, he is the best the have. He is not, however, the best football player playing TE.

Realistically, he may have a chance to unseat the reliable, albeit unspectacular, Swaim (whom the Cowboys know well and already trust) if the other two guys prove to offer more overall ability. It will be interesting.

Huh?
We are earthlings ...
