He'd be the first undrafted RB in team history to do so, I say he gets it! Please give your thoughts
I’m not going to knock any back getting 1k, but it’s obviously not the same as when the schedule was 14 games, and certainly not when it’s 17 (yes, I know he may get it in 16 games).

The point is that a 1k/year RB in today’s NFL isn’t that big of a deal. There will be 17-20 backs that hit the mark this year, and there are many, including Dowdle, who just aren’t difference makers. Dowdle has a shot due to a 3 game stat sheet against terrible run defenses.

On offense, the RB and certain OL positions were clearly our weakest links with everyone healthy. I’ve screamed it from the rooftops since game 1: Without a running game that’s at the very least somewhat effective, the QB will struggle on any team. Bash on #4 all you want, but when play action isn’t available and you’ve got exactly one top tier receiver, the team will have a tough row to hoe all year. It’s the sole reason the Cowboys over/under was 9.5 games before the season started. QBs can’t succeed with Dowdle-like dudes toting the rock.

I hope we manage to acquire a threat at RB in the off-season. That and the right moves on the OL will put our offense in a good position for next year.

1000 yds a season was a great season back when there were only 12 games

now it really means nothing

if you were getting yards in comparison now, that would be over 1400 yds.

remember OJ got his 2003 in a 14 game season.

that same per game average would have 2400 yds now
100 percent - im getting irritated with people now saying so and so is close to breaking X record...with a 17 game season soon to be 18 there will be many records broken simply bc more snaps.

One that i never see being broken is Emmitts all time yardage record...1 bc the running game is just not used the same and 2 bc rbs don't make it past early 30s for the most part any more

I like Dowdle I hope he resigns in Dallas plus the Cowboys draft one for a 2 headed rushing attack . 1000 yards may not sound like much in a 17 game marathon but around the NFL I have to think UDFA RB’s hitting 1000 yards is not that common. What it says is Dowdle avoided injury and the OL has helped

I know 1000 yards isn't really a benchmark anymore, but for Dowdle it will be considering how criminally underused he was until November.

For historical reference, the closest an undrafted Cowboys running back has ever come to a 1000 yard season was Troy Hambrick, who had 972 yards in 2003.

I think 1000 o maybe 1200 is fine, considering Jim played on a very different league that was not pass-happy.
Yeah the run game dominated football back then. Which meant all the defenses worked to stop the run above all else; do not forget that.
