If his concussion symptoms have really lasted this long, he needs to give serious consideration to giving up football. If he and/or the Cowboys are manipulating the IR system it will be evident if he returns and never has any more concussion issues.

At the very least, if his concussion symptoms are lingering, he should not even be back with the football team this year. He should be meeting with neurological specialists to see if something is inherently wrong or his injury was much more severe.

It just seems strange to me that he has had no history of concussions, hasn't even played football in years, and suddenly he has one of the worse concussions the NFL has seen in years. Either he and/or the Cowboys are making this worse than it is to avoid any NFLPA/NFL issues or something is seriously wrong and football should be the last of his concerns.

A concussion that last this long, a couple of months, usually indicates some form of brain damage.

I highly doubt he will ever play another down in the NFL

I'm not sure what to think.

A few days he was put on IR, he posted a tweet strongly suggesting he was ready to get back to work. He was ready to go.

Then he's put on IR. And he still has symptoms of a concussion supposedly.

I understand that symptoms can be pretty fickle. They come and go, depending on the nature of the injury. But it all seems strange. Is the team ramping up his symptoms so they can hide him away for next year? Or does he really continue to show symptoms?

I had high hopes for him. I mean, it's fun to type SUAVE!!! But all joking aside, if he really has missed all of this time due to one concussion, it might not be worth it for him to continue in football. But boy does he have tremendous upside.

In my opinion this is nothing more than manipulating the IR system. A good, easy way to hide a prospect on the roster without fear of losing him (while also not having to put him on the active roster).

If I'm wrong and Rico seriously is still feeling the effect of a concussion from nearly two months ago, then that is very scary. But I doubt that's the case.

Very Bellichick-ian move.

Manipulation of the IR system? And Tapper now on long term injury when a spot on the roster was needed to make way for Irving?

Interesting point.

Sidney Crosby had concussion symptoms for 11 months. he missed nearly a 1.5 years of playing, I believe he had a fracture in his neck or jaw that was mis-diagnosed. Not saying that's the case here with Gathers, but it does happen

I think everyone manipulates the IR system. It a joke. The league cares so much about safety but they place outrageous roster limitations.

Donnell Pumphrey was put on IR for tearing his hamstring...a reporter caught him running and cutting on a side field a week later.
