In my opinion this is nothing more than manipulating the IR system. A good, easy way to hide a prospect on the roster without fear of losing him (while also not having to put him on the active roster).

If I'm wrong and Rico seriously is still feeling the effect of a concussion from nearly two months ago, then that is very scary. But I doubt that's the case.

Very Bellichick-ian move.
Everyone is being a bit dramatic but he needs to start practicing in a few weeks

Missing a whole year would be horrible for his development

A concussion that last this long, a couple of months, usually indicates some form of brain damage.

I highly doubt he will ever play another down in the NFL

Oher was still showing signs of a concussion this past June, and he suffered it in October of 2016.
Very scary.

IIRC Rico also injured his Jaw too. There was a thread on that a couple weeks back.

If his concussion symptoms have really lasted this long, he needs to give serious consideration to giving up football. If he and/or the Cowboys are manipulating the IR system it will be evident if he returns and never has any more concussion issues.

At the very least, if his concussion symptoms are lingering, he should not even be back with the football team this year. He should be meeting with neurological specialists to see if something is inherently wrong or his injury was much more severe.

It just seems strange to me that he has had no history of concussions, hasn't even played football in years, and suddenly he has one of the worse concussions the NFL has seen in years. Either he and/or the Cowboys are making this worse than it is to avoid any NFLPA/NFL issues or something is seriously wrong and football should be the last of his concerns.
I was in the Cowboys are stashing him camp, but if he has not even been coming in for workouts the whole time, I believe this is a legit concussion injury.

His lingering symptoms might be more evidence of how little we actually understand about concussions and long term symptoms.

Note: Not trying to derail the thread, just pointing out that his symptoms may very well be legitimate.

This is my question. If they lied and/or exaggerated his injuries to get him onto IR, fine, a lot of teams do it.

What is the benefit to continuing the lie at this point? If a player goes on IR, there's no rule that says you have to stay injured to stay on IR.

Sidney Crosby had concussion symptoms for 11 months. he missed nearly a 1.5 years of playing, I believe he had a fracture in his neck or jaw that was mis-diagnosed. Not saying that's the case here with Gathers, but it does happen

Rico took a hit to the head. Crosby got hurt going down to give hea...never mind. You get the picture. Two different injuries. :lmao:

this is what i am thinking also.
i dont see any advantage by cowboys continuing to claim he is injured.
he is already on ir.
