I think people are really wanting to see Tony Gonzalez part 2 in this guy.

I admit I'm interested in seeing how he develops (if he does), but there's no way in hell he is anywhere near ready, especially for the playoffs. It would be a waste of a roster spot.

As for the fascination, it's all about his potential. He has a lot of Antonio Gates qualities in him, but is extremely raw. He may not even be ready next year.

In Sturm's breakdown of the week 6 win over Green Bay he showed how much success the Cowboys had running out of 12 and 13 personnel. Maybe they have enough trust in his run blocking assignments that they'll decide to activate him. As others have said I don't know if it's wise to play a guy as green as Rico in the playoffs.

Yes to add to this, Fish also reported that the guy knows what he's doing as far as what his job is on any given play.

Basically it seems like many believe in this guy, but still need to see him do it in actual games.

The fascination is his tools and what the Cowboys chose to pay him. The last guy they paid and treated like that off the practice squad was Ronald Leary.
