Parnell couldn't beat out Free last year. Free was probably one of the worst 3 right tackles in the league. So bad, he took a giant pay cut. He isn't good, don't fool yourself.

You're wrong, He's very talented. Jermey Parnell didn't even play football until college, he was a basketball player, he played 1 year in college as a defensive end. He switched to the o-line and has been a project, so every offseason while he is in his athletic prime the guy is going to improve a lot. Now that he is going to start he will be even better with experience. You're right he didn't beat out Free at mainly because Free made 7 million dollars last year but they rotated the last 4 games of the season and Parnell played well. Parnell played 256 snaps last year allowing pressure on 4.2% of his snaps which was the lowest on the team. So you my friend don't know what your talking about when it comes to this topic.

So why hasn't he beaten out Free now? The only reason he might get a chance is because of injuries to Livings and Leary.

he's our starting RT, I don't know what you mean? Leary is the starting LG Free starting RG and Parnell starting RT. They have other options like keeping Free at RT and Berny at RG.... so to me it sounds like he won the job.

Why the hate on him, he's clearly a talented player, even last year he was a little raw but it's very easy to see his talent level. He's a little more polished now and I expect good things from him and Free both this year

I still think Free at RG is more of a contingency plan than anything else.

They don't understand how to develop young talent? I couldn't disagree with you more. Dallas has done a good job of developing their young players, they have a bunch of UDFAs on the roster that came along nicely, along with a bunch of late round draft picks that have grown into nice rotation players.

The Dallas Cowboys record over the last 18 sum odd YEARS or two Decades absolutely screams futility in all phases including player development.

Comparable to the old Saints teams before Brees, the paper bags have come out of the wood work and into the stands for several years running.

Meanwhile teams that really understand NFL talent know how to make and win playoff games while contending year in and year out on a consistent basis.

I feel pretty good about Parnell after seeing the Hard Knocks clip of him destroying the Bengals 6'8" 285lbs rookie. Then watching him dominate in the last preseason game like he is supposed to gives me hope that he really does have something to him.

I like the way our offensive line is shaping up and is configured right now. I think we have a chance to see tremendous improvement in our line this year.

Agreed. The thread title should read "right tackle scares Margus Hunt"

I am not hating on the guy. He is only the starter in case Leary can't go. He is a last resort. He is a project, not a real NFL player.

Looks as though our starting ride side is set with Free at RG and a very shaky, unproven Parnell at RT. Is J'Marcus Webb better than Parnell? Chicago released him and the Vikes quickly snatched him up.. .

I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. If Parnell struggles, Free would likely be moved back to tackle and Bernadeau reinserted at guard. Hopefully, though, if that becomes necessary, Dallas will kowtow to Brian Waters and bring him in.

Leary is ready to go at LG and Parnell is still gonna be the starter at RT. That speaks to his talent, considering the team still likes Bern.

Abilitywise, it's our best combination. The problem with it, though, is Parnell missing so much camp time and Dallas waiting so long to move Free to guard. That's going to create some extra hiccups on that right side early in the season.

Hopefully, though, it won't create so many that if forces Dallas to scrap the plan ... unless, of course, that makes them to bring in Waters. (I'd rather just see this group of linemen solidify quickly.)

Well, this article just came out 3 hours ago. http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/a...tinuity-/660bd464-574f-4d29-9f8a-c022f0193737

It says
Doug Free could be at right guard or right tackle. Ron Leary might be healthy enough to start at left guard, and if he’s not, maybe Free rotates inside and Jermey Parnell takes the field at right tackle.Mackenzy Bernadeau could be the left or right guard, depending on the situation and his health.

So it appears to be up in the air. He may or may not be the RT, depending on the health of Leary.

Well, I went back and watched the final pre-season game and focussed on Parnell alone for the first 3 offensive series he played. I thought he played very well. Particularly the first drive in run blocking he was driving his man back consistently. On other run plays he turned his body and his opponent and positioned himself well - so that the running back had a good lane. He seemed to clearly know his duties on each different play and positioned himself accordingly. The only negative play was right at the end of the 3rd series, and that was because Killer Kowalski couldn't keep his man from shedding the double team block - Parnell and Killer had shoved the defender back, but Killer wasn't strong enough to turn him and prevent defender from making tackle on our RB. On run blocking, I felt Parnell was a bit "high" (he's tall and doesn't bend a lot at the waste, so takes a hop back on run blocking from what I saw), but he had good position and a good punch and the contact between him and defender was a stalemate often.

I thought Parnell had a very solid game - don't know the caliber of his opponents on Houston, but for those 3 series he looked fine to me.
This player has physical talent, most fans can see that. He is BIG enough, and strong enough - he needs REPS. He hasn't played a lot of oline.
NOw he's not supposed to be 100% physically because of that previous injury, and considering that, I thought he moved very well - luckily he didn't play many speed rushers or face many blitzes, but one on one - he was fine, and was the stronger in battles.

I still think he has excellent upside. At the very least I do think he will be a good long-term swing tackle for the team, especially the more he plays.

What's the difference in this team from the last Decade besides the 4/3 Kiffen D?

Ok, but everything reported up til that article says Parnell at RT Free at RG and Leary or Berny at LG..... I'm going to say they will play their 5 best and I believe Parnell is a better RT than Berny is a guard.... If I'm wrong ill write a post saying how wrong I am and how right you are... But I got a lot of faith in Parnell as the RT

I Honestly think this is a good offense, I think is a solid offensive line, and I think there some quality depth. I'm really not one of those fans that pick the cowboys to win the Super Bowl every year, I just think this is a good football team.... I don't think they have been that far away in recent years and some of the upgrades will make a huge difference

After Defensive Scheme, the biggest difference over the last Decade is STs personel. .. maybe that will be enough to go above the .500 mark and win a playoff game...at least we hope so.
