Words mean little to nothing at this time of the year. The players either bring their "A" game or they won't. We'll see about that.

I'd still prefer to see and hear a head coach with the confidence in his players to see fit to crow about it, like Jimmy Johnson once did.
I feel it's a psychological boost to the players to see and hear how their head coach has enough confidence in them to brag of it.

Why was anything needed to be said publicly. Sounds like he’s pandering to our owner.

Or he’s worried we aren’t ready for the importance this game is in the season and possibly his future.

If that’s the case then this is all about him.
Seems like he was asked a question and gave an honest answer. In context, his answer was benign.

The context is important. But if he offered up a guarantee then that was probably beyond the scope of the question.

Surely he’s asked similar questions weekly , why offer it up this week?

How did McCarthy make it about himself exactly?:huh:
The players didn’t guarantee a win. McCarthy did.

How critical is this win to the confidence of this team . If we lose could this become a dumpster fire?

I think this game is bigger for his leadership of this team than most want to admit. I’m going to say it’s the biggest game of his Cowboy stint thus far. That’s probably why he chose making such a bold statement this week . That’s makes it more about him .

I think because the stakes are now raised and he's using anything possible to keep the boys eyes up and more focused than ever.
This is the stretch run and it's against our divisional rivals.

Time to put up, or shut up.

It's good for the rivalry. Now, Jimmy's guarantee? That was a ballsy and outlandish statement and I'm glad McCarthy wasn't pounding his chest when he had his moment. Gives the mediots something to chirp about and I think it kind of backs the WFT into a corner. Let's see who comes out punching. I want to see the Cowboys get back into smash mouth mode.

Why would you say anything publicly ?

Is he suppose to say "I don't have faith in my players ability to win this game?" Just because some Cowboys fans are doubting the team right now, doesn't mean that they aren't going to have confidence that they can win this game. McCarthy said that he expects his team to win, that isn't exactly a guarantee. Jason Garrett staying silent did nothing to help the Cowboys at times in big divisional games that decided the winner of the NFC East or who was going to make the playoffs. The team still lost big division games when Garrett was the coach. And those teams didn't need any extra motivation to beat the Cowboys. So why would the WFT need McCarthy to give them the incentive to be motivated for this game?

Yep

I think he realizes how huge this game is. This could spiral quickly with a loss. And blow up.
