RJ Ochoa's final preseason thoughts

Totally agree. I don’t see the issue at all at CB.

They aren’t overly impressive as a position group if isolated, but I think the defense will be fine overall as a unit.

Besides, you’re not getting a needle mover corner off final cuts.
Right.
Last year they had 2 CB's I thought would make the roster. They claimed both Steward and Bridges off the waivers. And related those 2 other CB's.

That may happen again with a few players. Maybe one on the OL. But I can't see it at any other position.
Unless they are not happy with Steward this year, or FA pick up Kendrick.

We need help at OT, after Steele there is Nate Thomas / Shelton (who is definitely not ready to play yet). And this is not even taking into account that Steele is a very weak point of this line and teams will take advantage of that.

CB, they are fine with CB 1, 2, & 3 but they believe talent falls off after that. They don't need Joey Porter level of talent and no way would they trade for him, but they just need a guy that can play. They will find one on the waiver wire after cut down.

the RB lineup is set and we will be fine the way that is.

I think we are good at DT, LB, definitely OK at safety (so much so that we will end up dumping a guy that could be starting anywhere else in Julius Wood)
Obviously, I am a little u sure what we have at DE but am hopeful. Yes we have to live with the world where there isn't a superstar at end on this team, but hopefully we can create pressure enough to keep QBs honest.

TE, I would like to see Ferguson, Spann-Ford, and Triggs but in any way, we are good there

WR, got probably the best group of WRs we have had over 30 years possibly ever (on paper at least until we see it). Obviously don't need help here, and will possibly drop some real talent at cut time (Mingo/Brown, Hudson). Imo we should keep 6 (includes Mingo and Brown), but if we only do 5 then Mingo would be my cut. I know some say Mingo does special teams also, but work it out. Don't cut Brown. I think he possibly could be the next George Pickens.... I know it's early and all that, just an opinion hence the word possibly. This is his floor and he shows this much, Mingo took years just to show what he has. Keep both is what I think they will do.

QB backups, oh boy I hope they don't keep both at least not on the 53. Cut one and put him on practice squad. Don't waste a roster spot on 3rd string qb. It is kind of a tossup with this preseason, but I tilt towards Milton.
The first paragraph is my main worry of this team.

Why does some (seems like 98%) say they need help at CB?

They have Revel, Durant, Bland (though may are down on him)

Kendrick, though not how sure his TC went. They kept Steard for a reason, after the claimed him from waivers before the season started.

Drafted Moore, but seems he has been up and down. However, put him on the field with the starters. His play would be better. As most players would be.

Will there truly be anyone out there to claim from waivers. They do not have trade capital. And what they do have.
Do you use it on CB, RT, LB (as many think we could still use).

I say go with who you have, other than OT depth.
I think you're right, go with what you have now and see what ya got. The first 5 games of the season will tell us a lot about the strength of the roster.

When we have 5 DBs on the field, is it going to be like Quinn, 3Ss and 2CBs?

Are Triggs hands a problem?

Also @jazzcat22 as he was talking about CB

There are absolutley going to be DBs that get cut that Dallas will immediately try to sign becuse other teams bubble DBs are better than some minor 53 man DBs

Some teams simply have better CB depth and face really tough decisions tomorrow.
Here are a few I’ve been watching. The jets cause I follow them and the Seahawks because they used to run some two man high

Including the Chiefs because Fulton is will be an interesting decision

Jets:
  • Jordan Clark - plays special teams and is better than our CB5/6. He was headed for a cut until Ponds got hurt. If a ponds goes on IT, Clark makes the 53z.
  • Mory Bomba - he was going to make the 53 man but he got hurt. They may try to sneak him past waivers. He would be a great pickup but they may jsut make him one of their 2 IR stashes
Seahawks
  • Noah Igbinoghene - he’s athletic and plays special teams but may be vulnerable becuse to keep him, the Seahawks would likely have to cut a 2026 draft pick. He’s the type of veteran Parker might consider. We mocked Diggs for that one at but Seahawks fans were really impressed with him in his debut and he might push this guy out
Chiefs:
  • Kristian Fulton - this is a longshot but a guy teams will be watching. The Chiefs signed him to a big contract but he’s on their bubble. They are trying to go with younger players and he has slipped in camp below younger, cheaper players Classic sunk cost fallacy test for the Chiefs. They could be dug in because they laid him so much. They’d probably like to trade him but no one is likely to do it because they’d take his bad contract. If he’s actually cut, there are a half dozen teams, including the Cowboys, who would be calling his agent before midnight

We should have kept Hoffman. If Guyton goes down our back up is most likely T. Smith, with Bass moving to LG.

They will hope Steele with Ferguson, will hold up enough on the right side.

Because they need corners.
Kendrick had a mediocre camp after an initial fast start.
Steward is a slot corner.
Carson crapped the bed in every preseason game.
Moore had the same nagging groin injury that plagued him in college.
Bridges isn't good.
Just about everyone else was camp fodder!

I’ll agree with Jerry (makes me feel dirty) on the QBs.

There’s going to be one major difference…..one is active and the other is emergency, so they will need to decide.

Hopefully…very hopefully….we never see either.
The emergency QB has to be in the 53, just not the game day roster. And I don’t think he can be a PS call-up that week.

Yep, I mean…why? Let teams dress three unconditionally
Well, they can, but to be unconditional they all have to be on the game day roster. I get why they did the 3rd emergency since he doesn’t take up a game day roster spot. I don’t get not allowing a PS call-up to be the emergency QB. Probably has to somehow with a Patriots cheating scheme.

It's dumb because he will only play enough plays to be considered a RB3, not a RB2 in carries.
If Javonte gets hurt Malik would be rb1. Blue is a change of pace back that really isn’t that but because he had a fast 40 and people thinks he plays fast he gets that title. Blue has a role in the pass and screen game. As a running back? I don’t see it.

How many teams have good CB4’s lol? Downs and Thompson will also play A LOT of slot corner so there are your 4th/5th.

Just don’t see enough talent at the position in the league to expect to have 4 good pure corners on your team. By the time any team loses 2/3 starters in one room they are running on fumes anyway.

Hopefully, Dak might be capable of lasting throughout the season without a serious injury.

In the event Dak is forced to remain on the sidelines for any period of time, may it be very brief.
Dak is now considered an injury prone QB for the 2nd half of his career. The QB2 is very important. I hope we make the right decision.

Absolutely no one, lol. Just media talking points for engagement farming. With the league today, the offense has so many advantages, there's no way you can expect to roster a ton of playmakers at defense. You just hope they can stay on the field and hold their weight,

Blue has been running nothing but in between the Tackles, proving he can be used inside if needed, so that proves you wrong already.
