Yep. "RKG" means whatever is convenient at the time in order to justify an acquisition.

Who among the Cowboys brass has said they acquired McClain because he is an RKG?

Wait a second.. he told Nick Saban to *** himself.. I thought Jason Garrett and Nick Saban are connected on a different level than the rest of the world and Garrett has such a high value for Saban and vice versa. How dare Garrett get a guy that told the holy Saban to go *** himself..

And Aaron Hernandez, despite being the starting TE, shot somebody while still being a Patriot.. The Patriots put up with them, because they had talent.

Sure - but I don't expect they were aware of the depth of his issues.

You mean the Right Kind of Guy isn't a guy that has no talent, isn't a good teammate, and just shows up for his check... Wow, JG is a genius...

Does anybody remember when the Garrett-homers were fawning when he didn't allow Marion Barber to 'start', because he wasn't wearing a tie. How they were telling us Garrett's concept of the RKG is a guy that he is a goodie-goodie? I bet you that happened before 2012 when this interview was done.

As a freshman he changed a defensive play and Saban and him got into it. He was temporarily benched and then got into line. Two years later he was the team captain and they won a national championship.

The instance you are referring to is where Saban stood up to McClain and won his respect. From the moment forward, they were very close - as I read it, they started watching film together and Rolando was named a team captain. That's where many may say their is potential...Marinelli doesn't take crap off players either, which is why I suspect they were willing to role the dice with him. And as I said before, if he doesn't turn out to filt the RKG mold, the Cowboys lose nothing for cutting him. I'm not even sure, given that development, you could call this move a gamble - it is the definition of a free look.

BTW, Dante Hall tells us that Deasean Jackson is the RKG they need in the locker room.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...n-jackson-is-right-kind-of-guy-for-Commanders

Maybe Dante Hall should be our next coach, because he sounds just like Jason Garrett does. And apparently that ability to 'talk' a 'good talk' shows progress and a plan and great head coaching ability.

I assume you meant DeAngelo Hall? Dante Hall was a WR/KR/PR for the Chiefs and Cardinals, who retired years ago.

Congratulations on a fine post, although your sarcasm did get derailed by your lack of reading comprehension.

Not true... RKG is such a broad-sweeping term that it covers everything. It includes talent and measurables, includes passion and work ethic, it includes playing for the team. Meaning it's just essentially coach-speak which has no real meaning.

It does have a meaning if you want to be direct about it and just understand he's talking about a mixture of character and passion. Garrett himself explicitly separated it from measureables, talent, etc.

The problem is that some people see it like some sort of gospel. Like he's Professor X using Cerebro to find mutants or something, there's no magic to it.

Chemical imbalances are more often treatable than not. Compliance with treatment is often the issue.

That, and the treatment sometimes turns them into walking zombies.

Yeah, I did mean DeAngelo Hall especially when I linked to the article, which would make it quite obvious. I'm not sure what your statement about 'reading comprehension' does for the point though... It surely doesn't have anything to do with a simple mistake.

"The most important thing is we talk about what it means to be a Dallas Cowboy, the kind of guys we want on our football team. If you look at the guys we've selected, each of these six guys represents that. They're good football players. The top three guys are from big schools. They're prominent players at that school, they have production at a high level. And then as we've gotten a little further down in the draft we've been able to take some guys who we think can fit a particular role for us. At least to create some competition on our football team. Again, they have the right measurables, they're the Right Kind Of Guys, we think they're good football players."

"Obviously they have to have the physical requirements to play this game. The measurables, the talent, the aptitude to play. Part of that is being "The Right Kind Of Guy."

"You want guys who love to play football and show you that they love it each and every day. Passion, enthusiasm, emotion, all of those things come into it....It's one thing to talk that, but you need to see that."

So essentially, he's included every, single trait that makes up a great football player...

As stated in some other posts, he and Saban developed a close relationship after that incident.

It's now being reported that Saban has been involved with McClain recently and that McClain would only un-retire if he went to an NFL team that was approved by Saban.

Honestly, given the number of no-names and ex-all-stars trying to reignite careers here on defense, this was a perfect landing spot for McClain. He should fit right in. Add to that Marinelli is a no-bs type coach, and he really could flourish here. The only thing I question at this point is will he be able to keep his mind right and get his body right in time for training camp?

I would just like to point out to the optimist on this thread, if you are following along response by response you are getting a perfect example of the difference between a realist and a pessimist.

Who among the Cowboys brass has said they acquired McClain because he is an RKG?

So now Jason doesn't care whether or not players fit the RKG mold?

Then who decides what an RKG is? Given a handful of signings, how does anyone know which players were RKGs and which ones weren't?

I remember vaguely reading there were signs about Hernandez in the draft of which they were aware and even before stuff really hit the fan.

Sure - but I don't expect they were aware of the depth of his issues.

I actually just thought about this after what people wrote. It may very well be the reason the Cowboys got him, because of that connection.
