I knew what you meant. my comment was for all of us in the non team in the know type way, including myself. Guess I should have worded it better.
Maybe his knee procedure was more than what they let on. So I agree, if it was, then he should have been here for rehab.
last I read it was a minor scope procedure as you said, which too me was why he chose to rehab away from the team.

But it could have been more too, like an ACL type deal, as long as it took for him to return. Maybe his suspension had something to do with him being away too. Just seems a long time for a knee scope. Those can be what, 2 to 6 week type things?

Anyway, he is back, looks back in game shape and is making plays.

You know, the more I think about this, the more I think he was just lax in his offseason workout regimen which caused him to come in more "out of shape" than "in need of rehab". By all reports, it was a simple knee scope which shouldn't be a big deal with a simple rehab regimen. What little conditioning he was able to gain in training camp was severely diminished once the season started with him on the suspension list.
I guess I took a long winded way to say that his issues may have more to do with self discipline and work ethic than anything else. He just strikes me as a player with a million dollar body and a fifty cent brain (discipline-wise...by all accounts, he's a very intelligent individual).

No on is going to be lining up to give McClain some long term monster deal. He's only going to be 27, get him signed to a reasonable deal.

Let him walk? Okay, who do you sign to replace him?

If we take the popular thinking around here, we let Claiborne walk, we cut Carr, cut Church, cut Wilcox, and we let Hardy walk. Some of these players need to be kept and some need to be signed.

Sign Hardy and McClain and hope we can get Claiborne on a decent deal and cut Carr. Then allow Jones to have a TC focusing on the safety position.

It is nice to see those two LBs playing like we expected them to all along. They're both great players when they're healthy and focussed.

That's the key. I agree that he's not likely going to get that big contract from anyone, so sign him to a deal that is reasonable. My only remaining fear would be a long term suspension. He's in the league's substance abuse program (or whatever it's called these days) and is one positive pee test away from missing a year. Can he stay clean?

I reiterate.

Ro is one puff away from a year suspension.

oh really? And whats your opinion on the iron man Sean Lee?

Getting hurt and missing games is a bit different than smoking weed and getting suspended. Coming in out of shape. Ro has talent, but no desire. Lee has desire, but yes injuries make him unreliable.

In the perfect world, I would look to replace both, but since you can't in one off-season...Ro would be the first to go.

There aren't many who would argue against his athleticism and talent. His reliability is what is questionable. He's a great acquisition under the right contract.

I agree.
I wouldn't mind seeing him back on the team on a PERFORMANCE/PLAYTIME based contract only. I don't mind paying good $$ for a player that performs but don't want to risk guarantee money or dead cap space.

So is scandrick. Anyone who has failed a previous test is a puff away

yes, good post.
but stuff like this only applies to the CZ whipping boy poster boy of the week / day/ year / or however long fans want to keep it up.
McClain...give grief to, Scandrick....gets a pass

Thing is, Scandrick whined about his contract, got a new one, then got caught. RKG?

The big challenge with McClain is getting him to stay out of trouble and stay motivated to do this from the start of the year instead of having to work himself healthy and in shape.

This is really it for me, I have no confidence that this offseason will be any different. This was his show me year, and he showed us that marijuana > football and on top of that he wasn't in shape till half way through the season. At least Hardy can say he was out of football for an entire year, McClain just seems like he will be an under achiever.

He's a very good player, but as a lot of you have stated, he has off-the-field issues. Imo, Hitchens makes him expendable.

I like RoMac when he wants to play, I just don't think he really loves the game. Nothing wrong with that, to each their own, but you really have to have some level of passion to have consistent success especially at the MLB position.

50 cent brains don't make the dean's list and have their degree in finances.

Once y'all figure out that everyone comes with different life experiences and cultures and DON'T have to live up to your expectations of who they should be...and how they should react....you will save yourself much consternation.

Maybe you missed the point I made that I wasn't referring to his intelligence. I said that he is, by all accounts, an intelligent individual. I was referring to his apparent inability to make sound decsions when it comes to his profession. His degree in finance has nothing to do with his ability to stay on an active NFL roster and I'm not trying to hold him to anybody's standards other than the NFL's required standard to stay drug free. That's all I was saying.
I'll also throw this in...I don't smoke pot but I certainly don't have an issue with anybody that does partake. I wouldn't have any issue with Ro or any other player doing it if the NFL didn't have an issue with it but since the NFL does have an issue with it, I do too because that affects the team I root for, which is what this is all about, after all.

Cool.

Who do you replace him with? Hitchens?

Someone who is eligible to play.

Ragland at Alabama perhaps. Or sign somebody. But make sure they're allowed to put on an NFL uniform and play.
