What if this starts a trend and teams start looking for coaches in manufacturing companies?

It wouldn't shock me with our talent.

after the excellent Edwards hire, this is another strange hire, almost as bad as the Nolan hire.

who is this guy, and does he even know anything about running a team of coaches???

Let’s be honest here

I’m 100% positive that McCarthy knows more than you do so the fact you’re running your mouth about who knows what is best is comical to put it nicely. Stupid would be another word.

Does that sound like he will probably represent the coaches “wants” when it comes to player acquisition to anyone else?
I don't think so.
He badly wanted to get into coaching.
I think he will handle drama like we heard about last year and basically be a go between players and coaches.
It is really easy to hand over the profile you want in the draft at each position.
Asst coaches could do that directly.

They will rank guys at their position specifically for sure.

His behind the scenes job in GB was a "fixer".
He had zero input into Thompson's drafts.

Look around the league. Coaching titles are meaningless. You don't honestly believe this guy has authority over coordinators, do you?

Lots of teams use that title for lower-level assistants or guys who handle a special set of duties

I think that's most likely his role. He'll probably be the coach going to the Combine and working with McClay. I don't get the sense that McCarthy is as interested in being directly involved in the personnel side.

I think he wanted back into football. I also think MM had him pegged all along for a role with him, wherever he went. One report said he was going to work with the defense, now we hear he is an analytics guy lol...what THE heck is that? What will he actually be doing? YES its a murky hire, but again, I guess we gonna have to trust MM on this. Jerry really has given him carte blanch it seems.
I still think the McCarthy hiring has been planned for quite a while and Jerry had him waiting in the wings with a plan.

If you read up on him, his role in player development included mentoring and helping players balance on and off-field responsibilities.

Many teams have guys like that. Jerry uses David Wells in that capacity for specific players when they have problems.

This hire looks like it is all about McCarthy wanting to not leave that aspect of player development up to Jerry's hires. That's why it is a coaching rather than front office hire.

For all of you that complained about guys being too involved with things other than football or not stepping up as leaders, this hire should please you.

At this rate I am going to start wondering what will McCarty actually be left to do...
what does the General in an Army do? what does the Commander in Chief do?simpler a CEO, down they are at the top of a pyramid but have the most responsibility for everything they oversee? im betting they do..

MM maybe lettings some of his OC PC duty's on game day go so he can make sure he can have more control over all phases..thats bad how? its called walkaround coach ie Bill Parcells mold..they picks great underlings and delegate but make sure they are all working Efficiently...

why do some care so much of what he is doing, heck he maybe closer to a full control more then ever and that could be a good thing..

Davis is a fixer/babysitter. Player gets into a drunken argument with his girlfriend in public....Davis makes the story go away. Players smokin dem TWEEDS lol, that story never gets written either. He's good at it too.

If true, I actually like this move.
