I know some of you are way down on this kid...I'm not. I'm not convinced he will be starting at the start of this year either, but don't think he's nearly as bad as most of you think.

He came in at 350+...asked to get down to 325lbs. This takes a lot of energy and work to get to that weight in a few months. He was asked become the starter not knowing the play book, and preceeded to start 16 games for us. He proved to me he was tough/determined/and stayed the course giving everything he had. This game is mental!

He was also soft...big time soft. He got away with he pure sizes and natural strength at Pitt...

I think having an entire off-seasaon and working his butt off to get stronger, hopefully weighing in around 320 or so. Knowing the playbook and working hard on his footwork he may be in the mix to start at RT.

That's just my opinion...he had a lot of work to do before the season even started...I expect him to be a much improved player with a full year of starting under his belt. It's no secret I want Flo on the right side and a quick agile LT, but I doubt that will be the case. I think Petitti will be in the starting mix at RT this year and do very well!

I was hoping it would say

.........has just be released.

Just kidding. I like him as a backup and maybe future starter. Not this year.

He's a liability.
And when Drew Bledsoe is your QB, that equals MAJOR problems.

I think the kid will be a solid starter in this league. I don't agree that he was mentally soft. I do think tha with all he learned last year, he will be very tough to displace this year.

I think he'll be fine down the road, just going to take time. Also, don't forget Colombo should be healthy and might contribute at RT.

But does he have the feet to play RT?

No doubt Petitti will improve his strength, knowledge of the game, and technique, but does he have the athletic ability to be good?

I hope so, but I don't think any of us know.

Let's hope for the best.

I am not down on Petitti, but think he needs time to develop.

I dont think we can take the chance to have him at RT next season. We need an option there, and bring Petitti along slowly IMO. He still may have a future, but right now we can not risk Bledose because we want to develop the kid faster.

If we do not have a much better line this year, we have no chance.

I am not willing to rest that on Petitti.

Not mentally soft....physically soft (dough boy). He proved he was mentally tough last year...no doubt about that.

I hear ya...and agree. I think who ever we put to compete against Petitti at RT will have their hands full in compitition...not a given. I would not be surprised to see him win out either...

pettiti is lost in Action. The man puts Bledsoe in way to many situations, and quite frankly that is unacceptable.

Rob P is young and has a tremendous upside. It takes time. Larry Allen wasn't Larry Allen in his rookie year. Neither was Erik Williams.

In the NFL world, Rob P is making pennies.

I'd rather have Rob, who's cheap, has a good upside, a year of experience under his belt ... than to pay $7.5 mil to Larry Allen who's best years were 5 years behind him, no knees, can't move in space, and NO upside left.

I'm rooting for Rob.

I definitely like the kid and what he stands for. He got his butt handed to him on a silver platter almost every game. I think your assessment on his skill level in college is spot on and when he went pro he was in a state of shock. The big kid always kicking everyones butt was getting his on Sundays. I'm pulling for the guy to be a starter because I like him but that surely doesn't make him starter material. I had to remove the homer glasses early in the season and am thankful I didn't respond to some of Racks posts!! He was right, a little harsh, but right none-the less.

I beleive practically everyoje on this board wants Petitti to succeed. Everyone is rooting for him. I also believe the Cowboys can not take a chance on having a repeat of last year. Are Rogers, Petitti, and Columbo enough to compete for that spot? I'm not sure it is. Note that Petitti is the most experienced of that group.

I'd say something about how Bledsoe makes every offensive line position MUCH more critical than another QB would...but that would open the provebial can o' worms.

I believe Kosier will be the emergency RT. There are lots and lots and lots of possibilities for our opening day 5-man offensive line. Who knows what will shake out in the next 6 months.

He's pathetic. If they're counting on him for anything, the season is already lost.

I think Rob will be improved in 2006, hopefully MUCH improved.

I would like to bring in one veteran right tackle as insurance, just in case.

Mark Tuinie was pretty pathetic when in his 1st couple of seasons as well, heck Troy was sacked 11 times against Philly. Tuinie got a lot better as time went on. I don't think Dallas is going to give up on Petitti based on his rookie year. I don't think they will hand him the job I think he will have to earn his way on the team but it is too early to give up on him right now.

If he was drafted in the first or second round and named Barron, Brown, or Barnes with the same production as last year, there wouldn't be near as many people down on him. The kid has promise and had to deal with injuries, weight loss, and no help after Flo went down. FYI- rookie o-linemen like Barron, Brown, and Barnes got help and they weren't forced to play with a high ankle sprain.
