Rob Petitti...

I think Rob will be improved in 2006, hopefully MUCH improved.

I would like to bring in one veteran right tackle as insurance, just in case.

I agree.

I think Rob may have potential, but I don't want to bank the season on it. And I don't think we're inclined to draft a high round RT and throw him out there as a rookie.

Fabini must have failed that physical but good.

If he was drafted in the first or second round and named Barron, Brown, or Barnes with the same production as last year, there wouldn't be near as many people down on him. The kid has promise and had to deal with injuries, weight loss, and no help after Flo went down. FYI- rookie o-linemen like Barron, Brown, and Barnes got help and they weren't forced to play with a high ankle sprain.
Production? He was the worst tackle in the NFL...unless that distinction belongs to Tucker. He gave up a ton of sacks, committed a ton of penalties, and did very little to help the running game. It's hard to imagine a tackle playing worse.

I was hoping it would say

.........has just be released.

Just kidding. I like him as a backup and maybe future starter. Not this year.

Funny, I was hoping the post would report that Rob was planning on quiting the NFL and joining Shane Hannah in the roofing bsuiness.

Seriously though, I like the kid and think 2006 will be his breakout year.

I know some of you are way down on this kid...I'm not. I'm not convinced he will be starting at the start of this year either, but don't think he's nearly as bad as most of you think.

He came in at 350+...asked to get down to 325lbs. This takes a lot of energy and work to get to that weight in a few months. He was asked become the starter not knowing the play book, and preceeded to start 16 games for us. He proved to me he was tough/determined/and stayed the course giving everything he had. This game is mental!

He was also soft...big time soft. He got away with he pure sizes and natural strength at Pitt...

I think having an entire off-seasaon and working his butt off to get stronger, hopefully weighing in around 320 or so. Knowing the playbook and working hard on his footwork he may be in the mix to start at RT.

That's just my opinion...he had a lot of work to do before the season even started...I expect him to be a much improved player with a full year of starting under his belt. It's no secret I want Flo on the right side and a quick agile LT, but I doubt that will be the case. I think Petitti will be in the starting mix at RT this year and do very well!

JMHO

I appreciate all his efforts and I hope he is lifting weights and running everyday!

Pettiti was a 6th round rookie last season wh played hurt and showed potential. He deserves a chance to be a backup and make himself a better pro just like any other 2nd day OL.

No serious football people including Pettiti himself really expected he'd be an opening day starter, but he was. I think he'll make an excellent RG or maybe RT in his career, maybe even as early as next season.

I don't know if Rob will be starting or not this season, and I have no way to know if he's going to develop into what people want, but I think it's silly to write the young man off so soon.

It is just as silly to count on him as it is to write him off.

The fat blob is horrible, I HOPE if the Cowboys are smart, that they'll replace him this offseason!

:laugh2: this made me laugh...He does suck i'll give you that.

I don't think people are trying to "save" him at all - just don't want to waive him from the team yet. Most linemen take a while to adjust, and he was a 6th round choice at that. I'm thinking he'll eventually turn out to be a decent player in the end...but it's not going to happen overnight. He has good size and at a minimum proved he's mentally tough enough the play all 16 games.

That being said, I think we need strong competition (IE - Other than Tucker) for the RT position this year.

I also agree with the sentiment that you probably shouldn't just give the spot to Rob and hope. You have to hedge your bet somewhat...

I'm curious as to whether or not Dallas feels like they have? Do they have any trust for Jacob Rogers now? Do they think Columbo is going to be able to help? Are they finally finished withTucker? Do they want to keep LA and let Kosier play some tackle?

Hey listen I dont have anything against Rob. I think he has a good upside to his game and maybe in the near future he can be a starter. But as a COWBOY fan I dont wanna see him on the field, not now. I want our team to win now and as far as Bledsoe is concerned, it would be a spit to his face if the O'line isnt fixed.

I think Parcells is a little to blame for Petitti's problems. Playing an inexperienced, 6th round, overweight, slow-footed, rookie will not get you very far.

When the 'boys started the season with the o-line that was in place, I knew it would be one of two things that would shoot us in the arse (the other being the loss of Hoffman).

I'll give Parcell's his props, when due. I'll call him out whe I think I see something stupid.

Pettiti sucked and he kept playing him (I understand he was limited, but opportunities were there last off-season). If Keyshawn had that production, I think many people posting in this thread would be looking for his head, not "hope he does better next year" sentiments.

I agree with you totally! Larry Allen,I thought, sucked his first year!

Pettiti will end up at Guard (ala Gogan). Tucker and or a F/A, draftee will be our RT.

I don't know how much you can blame the coaches. At one time, it looked like the line was going to good.

Jacob Rogers won the RT spot, but he got injured. Flozell is a pro-bowl level LT, but he got injured. You signed a pro-bowl guard, and he gets injured before he ever gets on the field. Your other pro-bowl guard continues to struggle with his mobility. Your blocking TE also gets injured and is a shell of himself.

This team lost both starting tackles! Pettiti was not supposed to be a starter, but he battled. The entire line fought injuries and just went south. It was just a wierd thing...

It exceeded our expectations. But for some reason we are accepting that as their true colors?

I don't know about you, but watching them early last year, we looked more lucky than good. We couldn't run block to save our lives and while Bledsoe wasn't getting dumped every play, it wasn't like his uniform was completely clean every week either.

"IF" Colombo is finally healthy (I haven't heard one way or the other) then that might explain a little bit. Otherwise, I think OT Williams from the Bills should get a look at RT
