That is two out of three division games where Ryan was taken to school by the opposition offensive coordinator. He was facing a Skins team that can't run the ball, Grossman at QB and a pretty pathetic set of receivers and he let's them go 89 yards with the game on the line with nary any resistance.

Grossman repeatedly hit receivers on deep-ins for 15-20 yards per completion. We also repeatedly gave up 10-15 yards for untested completions in the flat. There is something very wrong with his scheme or the execution of his scheme that is going on right now.

After the Philly game I thought it was a bit of an aberration due to how much fear he had of DJax going deep but there is no such excuse for defending the Skins. They were able to do many of the same things at will with the game on the line. I'm not smart enough to figure out what is wrong or how to fix it but something has been found that he has to now counter. I don't want this to become like 2006 when Parcells D became near useless in the last 5 games of the season and gave up 30+ ppg repeatedly.

On the bright side, I don't think we need to worry so much about losing him after this season.

I think he needs another pass rusher and he needs Bruce Carter out there defending the zones so things can get tightened up a bit more. I think there is hope of getting Carter ready to play some more snaps for the stretch run but I don't see a hope of finding another pass rusher on this roster this year.

I really do hope Ryan figures it out because I think we have a good shot at getting into the playoffs. If the defense can play like they were earlier in the year we can beat anyone including GB if we catch Rodgers on a bad day and Romo is in the zone.

Yeah that was pretty disappointing.

We made them one-dimensional and still couldn't stop REX GROSSMAN at QB and mediocre veteran WR's.

Mike Jenkins get well soon.

we cant defend the playaction pass at all,its been a problem for many seasons now.

I wish it were that easy.

That is the second time that the same gameplan worked against us. We need to find away to defend those things better.

This is a forum for discussion. Just because we won doesn't mean you can't point out areas of concern.

Ryan's redzone defense was bad, but let's not get carried away. If not for our horrible ST play, the Commanders never had a chance. They drove the length of the field for 10 points. I wouldnt say he got "schooled".

No wonder grossman balled today, i didnt know rob was out there at db allowing big gains.

We can talk about this. We don't have any problem talking about Tony when he has a bad game. The poster is right. Rob has to learn how to defend in the NFC East. This is big boy football. Lord help him when he comes up against Tom Coughlin and Eli.

Agree

If you look at how the WRs were being defended that throw appears to be there all-day almost uncontested. We can't make it that easy on the opposition.

He got schooled on passes over the middle but the run, the short passes, he didn't.

What I get a kick out of is people thinking this was going to be a game where we just showed up and won. This is a division, rivalry game and you knew the Skins were going to play us tough even though they are struggling. There was no way they were gonna let us waltz in there and do whatever we wanted like we did against Buffalo. This is the NFL and no game is ever easy especially a division game on the road.

I agree .. the defense definitely played bad today but the bad special teams played a big role in the close game.

It was the same areas that Philly attacked us when the Skins moved the ball against us. I think it is a systematic weakness that was being exploited. Maybe the answer is to mix in more man coverage which we can't do until Jenkins is back.

The season is a complilation of multiple segments. Strategies & schemes succeed, teams adjust, you re-adjust, they re-adjust etc. And of course available personnel, plus individual match-ups etc.

I think your point is valid. I just don't think it's quite as simple as a scheme being flawed that once discovered makes it useless (not that you're implying that). Guess all I'm saying is that I'm sure Ryan is paying attention, and keeping after it too.

It's all we can do.

It was an entirely different gameplan. Washington doesn't have anybody close to as fast as McCoy and Vick. It wasn't gameplan that got Washington moving, it was some great passes, good blocking, and bad penalties.

Getting Mike Jenkins and a fully healthy Sean Lee will help with any shortcomings we have IMO. Lee is still being taken on on many passing downs.

Right now, our weekness is over the middle in zone because our best coverage LB is playing with one arm and our second best coverage LB is still learning the playbook.

It wasn't the same areas at all. Philly won because they ran. Grossman threw the ball all over including deep which Vick didn't do at all.

You seem to have the mistaken belief that a good "scheme" means you just stop everybody you play every game. I guess that's why geniuses like Belichick have such dominating defenses year in and year out.
