Rob Ryan schooled again

Didn't the stats show that Robs defenses were always pretty bad his first year at a new team, and then the following year his defense would get a lot better?

Careful, couchscout and Hos will be here soon to tell you why you're wrong and should have no opinion.

Seriously, let it go. Hos isn't even in this thread and you are becoming preemptively butt hurt about a reaction you haven't even received yet.

Don't be that guy.

Ryan ran his mouth before the game about how the Commanders o-line was their weakness and that we would exploit that. :lmao2:

Oh, he also predicted a breakout game from Anthony Spencer. :lmao:

Every time he runs his mouth he looks more and more like a fool. :banghead:

We won, but Rob should send Gano a Christmas present.

I am that guy, get over it.

Agreed.

No kidding, we barely beat a chump team. Bad play design, bad play calling, bad execution on all side of the ball. Who cares about the playoffs right now?

Pretty obvious that the Commanders made adjustments- but we never did. Or if we did, they were not very effective. This game was way too close and it should not have been. I know it was the Commanders and a rivalry game- but our team never seems to be as up for these games as the rivals are.

How do you reconcile a take like that with the fact that we swept the Sk*ns this year? You wanted a more thorough sweeping?

Then be another guy. You're such a good poster, why overreact to points that haven't been made yet?

But we won. We used to lose these games.

This!

2 negatives for this game...

#1 defensive scheme stunk
#2 ST probably has played their worst game so far this season

What was the defensive scheme?

The defense needs to get things figured and quickly if they are going to win the division. Too many plays where they are squawking back and forth trying to figure out who is covering who, most of the time it results in a blown coverage. We are in week 11 there should not be this much confusion happening prior to the snap.

Also, some one is going to have to step up and start pressuring the quarterback, the secondary is just not good enough to get the job done on its own. Ware has a lot of sacks but lately he has disappeared for large portions of the game, he needs some help out there.

I'm not overly impressed w/ Ryan. HIs brother is not doing that well in NY and Buddy was a classless jerk who never won anything, so I don't think his pedigree is all that great as some seem to think.

Rob Ryan does way too much chest thumping for my tastes; I think the best coaches let their results speak for themselves. Did you hear Darryl say that the CBs looked as if they were waiting for the DL to get sacks and the DL was waiting for the CBs to blanket cover the WRs so they could get coverage sacks? He articulated what I've been thinking for a long time (well before Rob Ryan showed up) that everyone on this team is WAITING for somebody else to make a play. To me, that indicates poor coaching...

Rewatching the game video:

So much miscommunication. It continues to be one of this defense's weaknesses. I'm seeing DBs pick up the wrong WR and leaving one wide open. Or CBs are playing soft coverage thinking they have help inside but there is no help and they just let the WR run a post pattern for the 1st down.

Also, Anthony Spencer is just not a pass rusher. I rewatched those last 2 drives by the Commanders and he was rushing the passer on almost every play. I know the Spencer apologists always say that since he is a SOLB, he's not supposed to get sacks but during crunch time, he is definitely out there rushing on every play. I saw him get handled a few times 1 on 1 by the TE. It seems like if he's not getting the initial jump or is unable to overpower his blocker, he's been neutralized. He's got 0 moves

How many times can one guy (Spencer) bite down on the play action pass in one game? My god, Shanahan runs those boot legs 10 plus times a game for the last 20 years. How can you not maintain your containment once the whole game? Spencer is strong at the point of attack but he has zero pass rush skills and is confused quite often as well. You see quite a few plays every week where he is lost in no mans land and doesnt seem to know if he should be rushing the passer or dropping back into coverage.

Joe Decamillis got schooled - not Ryan.

All teams gets beat, all teams gives up points, receptions, sacks etc... It took several perfect passes, without all of our starting CBs, and terrible STs to make the game close. No teams play perfect games and fans should learn to temper their critique based based on that. We swept a division opponent and we are now in first place that is a good thing considering all this team had to overcome.

There's a lot of truth in that.

I'm still not big on the defensive collapse at the end of the game, but yeah the special teams were awful outside of the kicker.

Grossman was throwing some picture perfect, almost indefensible passes on those outs. Cowboys run defense completely dominated their running game and forced the Commanders to win the game through Grossman, and he almost pulled it off. Hard to believe, but wacky things happen on the road in division games.

If I was disappointed about something from the defense, it was how we could get absolutely no pressure rushing 4 against Washington's pathetic O-line, and yeah ... that includes Ware getting handled by Trent Williams one on one. The only time I saw Ware do much of anything was when he was lined up against Jamaal Brown.
