Can Robert Brewster play left tackle for the Dallas Cowboys ?

If this the Cowboys are counting on this guy to be anything more than a backup, it's a mistake.

I have heard he can pitch a few innings...

No.

I would think guard... Maybe.

I would say that the left tackle will be:

1. Adams
2. Free
3. A first round selection come April

Brewster doesn't make the list.

Why's that?

They liked him quite a bit during TC.

We only know he gets hurt lifting weights...:

Brewster hasn't played a snap in a real NFL game. He is recovering from a serious injury AFTER only beginning the process of rebuilding a fat body. He apparently has good talent and attitude, but this guy is a guy you train up slowly, and had a major injury setback in that process.

To gamble or rely on him to start at LT for the Cowboys would be suicide in my opinion, and that is not a shot at Brewster at all. Unfair to the player to expect him to be a savior or replacement of a multi-time pro-bowler in Flo.

Dont know about LT, but in college he was supposedly a better pass blocker than run blocker.

got short arms. Which is a bad thing for a Tackle. Witness Gallery.

He's a third round pick without as much as a training camp under his belt. From the looks of things he could be fragile and this team's evaluation of lineman has been spotty at the very best. I have a hard time believing they found someone in the 3rd round who could contribute within a year.

From what I remember, he is pretty quick off the snap and can get to the second level in a hurry. Great on sealing the outside. Average hands and needed work with his initial punch. All the makings of a candidate to challenge Kosier as a Guard.

Ahh, ok.

I was talking more about a couple of years down the line with some experience.

Yes, I agree that I wouldn't necessarily expect much from him in 2010.

A few years down the line, possibly.

That's a pretty valid point Woods.

But you never know, the kid will have had a year to build up his strength which was a draft question about him. His feet were decent. He seemed to know how to pass block, which is quite often the tougher thing for a new lineman to learn.

I'd like to see two positions upgraded on the oline come September. I don't think anyone would argue the point that if the same guys trot out there come September as who started yesterday, then this team is going to have problems.

I do know that the Cowboys really liked his feet and size in TC. And they liked his attitude.

I'm definitely rooting for him. He may be able to surpass Kosier next season, for example.

That said, I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket going into a 2010 Super Bowl run, if you know what I mean. We need to have an alternative strategy - just in case. And I'm guessing we probably will.

Oh yeah.

Round 1 - offensive lineman (probably a tackle)

Round 2 - safety

Round 3 - offensive lineman (probably a guard or guard/center)

One injury makes him fragile?

I'll take a playmaking safety, playmaking insidie LB, or a o-tackle in the first three rounds. It does not matter the order. :D

Where we are picking in round 1 I'm not sure the more likely value wouldn't be a the interior line as opposed to the tackle. I still think we have enough places we could upgrade to not take a shot at someone who is the best on the board, outside of TE.
