Robert Brewster?

I think there's some truth in what IR said, but it was Brewster's first pro game ever and first ballgame at all in two years.

I suspect, from what we've heard, that Brewster has a great attitude, works hard, and has the mentality you'd like your players to have. So when he does okay after being on the shelf for so long, nothing wrong with tossing him a little bone.

The only thing I hate is that he's still so fat. He didn't have a blown-out knee or hip or back, he had a torn pec. So there's no reason he couldn't have been running the last year and a half to lose most of that flab.

I re-watched Brewster last nite, considering it was his pro game, and the first football in a year, he was OK. I was not outstanding but he was not terrible either.

Keep in mind that Brewster will not be seeing the field much this year unless there is a long-term injury to one of those in front of him.

At this juncture Brewster is essentially a "rookie".

I think what he looks like next training camp is a more accurate measuring stick.

Vela had mentioned several times that Brewster has looked good in camp. To me that sounds like there is something to build on either at RT or at G.

I wasn't saying to cut him. My opinion is that he looks more suited for Guard. I do think we overdrafted him but he's here now, so I hope like heck he develops into a solid contributor.

With Barron we are OK at backup Tackle right now; with Holland we are OK at backup guard. What we do not have now is a backup center. If Bright or Costa cannot show something we need to find a backup center who would not be a disaster.

Very few players have the ability to overcome being a fat slob. Nate Newton was an exception.

Most guys that look like Cha-ron Dorsey (or whatever his name was) or Rob Pettiti play like them, too.

To look like this guy does after having all that time to get himself in shape likely tells us all we need to know about his work ethic.

What happened to Holland?

Hamstring issues for Holland. He has not practiced in over a week and did not suit up for the game. Team has been on time table for his return.

Single father whose wife died during child birth.

Started 50 games in college, recovering from torn pec, dealing with camp and two a days, raising a toddler on his own.

I'm fairly certain there is no issue with his work ethic.

Suffering personal tragedy equates to work ethic?

None of that really has anything to do with his work ethic.

You can't be working hard and look like he does unless you're finishing off each workout or practice with a double cheeseburger and a couple of pizzas.

He'll get another year because of where he was drafted, but truth is, he'll probably not amount to much. If you can't exercise discipline pushing away from the table, odds are you don't have discipline in other areas of your profession as well.

Looks like a road-grading guard to me.

It really is stunning Brewster could be in his 2nd NFL season and still have a bread basket that looks like that. I dont remember seeing another lineman with so much flab. Nate was big...but he was more round than just flabby. My concern is that Brewster is at his proper playing weight of 320 but still looks incredibly flabby....they almost need him to lose about 20 pounds of fat while adding 20 pounds of muscle to maintain his weight...anyone who trains knows how difficult that can be. He actually played LT better than RT but I still think Wade has to atleast consider trying him at guard where he doesnt have to deal with edge rushers (which the division is loaded with).

IMO Brewster needs to spend a lot of time with Jurazik. He looks like a bowl of crap out there. He has the body type of a guard. I realize that was his first game in over a year, but he needs to get leaner...that will help with his athleticism. He's still 2 years, at least, away.

Now this is seeing the grand picture.

just got a look at Brewster and understand why people are stunned at the fat gut. There is NO reason for that at all. He has been able to run the whole time; has been able to lift and do all the workouts for at least 9 months. To be that soft NOW is not good.

I'll take the other side of that trade.

He ran 5.24 and had a 30 inch vert.

He must be doing something right in spite of being a fat slob.

Wow!

Just because the guy is carrying a few extra pounds around the middle.

I see a lot of lineman in the NFL that carry them, including guys that use to play for this team.

I wouldn't degrade the guy for that. If he can't play, because he doesn't have the skills that's one thing. But I just don't think having the extra belly fat is going to torpedo his career on its own.

Look how athletic William Perry was.

Guys built like that can be good players or they can suck.

I guess having a guy built like Vernon Gholston is a recipe for success?

Oops.

Oops.

You can look any number of ways and still suck.

Bed wetters are over reacting just like they did with Free after the Minny game.

Dude hasn't played in a game since end of 2008 and he more than held his own.

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him starting for us in a couple years.

Actually I dare u to show me any current or past successful OT who had his body type. Now if were talking guard...he looks the part.
