Robinson: Barry Church Expected To Command $5M Per Contract

I'm a Church fan. I'd love to keep him if you can go 2 years. I'm not as high on Wilcox, but he did show improvement this season. I agree that having one back would be ideal. But if we spend a pick in the top 3 rounds on a safety, we'll be fine. But I'd much rather have one of those guys in hand so you can let the draft board fall to you instead of having a glaring need.

Yeah, I don't trust Wilcox, either. I didn't think he was going to make the roster coming out of camp last year, honestly. But you're right, he did play better last year.

I'm sure if he and Church both walk they'll find a vet on the scrap heap, but, yeah, it'd be nice to have a legit S position group in Dallas next season.

The good thing is with Jones in hand, we don't need a FS. It's usually easier to plug in a SS. I have no problem giving Heath a shot with a low-cost insurance plan

I prefer Wilcox to Church. I'd give Wilcox a deal maybe around the next tier down of money? $4mm AAV? And hope he continues to grow and improve.

I think we need to bring back at a minimum two of our guys in the secondary and hopefully three (carr, claiborne and the team's prefrence of Church/Wilcox).
Fwiw Fish is predicting we keep Wilcox at 3 years, 10 mil

I'd be very pleased with that.

You and I seem to be in lock step on this. I'd let Church and Carr walk. I'd take Wilcox back and Claiborne. I get the whole, "Claiborne has struggled to stay on the field" angle, but I always take a risk on talent, especially if we can get him for a relatively good contract.

I then might look at someone like Jefferson if the price is in a decent range and look for secondary help in the draft. Honestly, I think with Scandrick, Claiborne, Brown and a decent round pick at CB, you are in good shape there. You can probably add a veteran, older guy there as well for more depth.

Very sensible deal for both parties. Wilcox is young enough and the deal is short enough that he can cash in if he out plays his deal ala Church.

The problem is being a 13-3 team, teams (especially ones needing to get to the floor) may over value your talent ala Bruce Carter, Parnell and Durant

We are in a good position where we arent going to lose anyone critical, or an pillar type player. Add that with the fact a few of our FA's may bring a bounty of comps ranging from rounds 3 to 5. However 4 of our top 7 DB's are FA's and you probably need to bring at least 2 of them back. My choice would be Carr and Wilcox, and see if the market lets me bring Mo back on another cheap deal

Id bring them both back if I could tbh. Carr at a reasonable price is solid and reliable. Not a #1, and he will have his struggles, but he is still an effective CB. Claiborne may miss games, but if his play stays the course it was in 2016, he is a guy that you can trust on an elite WR. Thats not something you toss in the trash

I can't bring back both. The secondary needs more new blood than just bringing in a draft pick.

The amount per season doesn't matter. Tell me what kind of guaranteed money he's expected to receive and then we can talk.

$5 million per season could be $2 million this year, $4 million next year, $6 million then $8 million. The back end salary number means little because he'll never see it.

In before everyone wants all our players to walk unless it's a 1 year vet minimum, incentive laden deal. I'd be embarrassed for the Cowboys if they went to the agents with some of these numbers for proven vets that are thrown around. Free agents/Guys that get to their second contract are expensive

No, throw money at every average player who happens to be out of contract. Can't lose anybody, because, Cowboys.

Wow. That is pretty bad and shoots a hole in the theory that Jones is just a stud.

Careful all the Jones worshippers are gonna be all over you.

I read right here he is what made the DB's better, not the new coach or other DB's.

Workout warrior never liked the pick myself

I like both Carr and Mo, and wouldn't mind them both being back...then you use an early(ish) pick on a Safety...I feel like both Carr and Mo are MUCH better if they don't have to cover for 8 seconds....get me some pass rush and then ALL of the DB's look better

This seems like fair market value for Church. Quality starters are getting paid these days, even though I think the value is 3 to 4 million a year. Heck we paid Benson Mayowa a bench player almost 3 million a year. Fans have to get used paying more for these type of players as the cap continues to increase.
