Robinson: Barry Church Expected To Command $5M Per Contract

This is what is likely to happen. I just think Claiborne isn't going to be so expensive and i'm happy to gamble again on his health. He's still young. And we'eve seen secondary players who have had injury issues early in their careers leave and enjoy longevity elsewhere. I'd rather that doesn't happen with Claiborne.

I'm with you on that. If he wants to come back on a prove it deal, similar to 2016, I'd be happy to have him back.

That's a lot of money for a 29 year old Bazza. So for that deal they get a 4th next year right?

Maybe I am completely off my rocker here, but I think I can get Tony Jefferson, who is younger, for $7MM a year.

I wouldn't be opposed to that kind of money for Church if I didn't think we was so close to the end. Guys with marginal speed age quicker, especially in the secondary.

I prefer Wilcox to Church. I'd give Wilcox a deal maybe around the next tier down of money? $4mm AAV? And hope he continues to grow and improve.

I think we need to bring back at a minimum two of our guys in the secondary and hopefully three (carr, claiborne and the team's prefrence of Church/Wilcox).
I honestly think they keep Wilcox over Church. Wilcox is younger, cheaper has more upside and turn the corner last year. I think Wilcox gets a deal in line with the Churches old deal, and you're buying high in Church right now

In for what?

Overpaying $5-$7 million a year for this guy?

In that case, how about this one?

In before everyone wants all our players to walk unless it's a 1 year vet minimum, incentive laden deal. I'd be embarrassed for the Cowboys if they went to the agents with some of these numbers for proven vets that are thrown around. Free agents/Guys that get to their second contract are expensive

For consistency's sake, we probably want to keep one of our top two strong safeties, if we can. I know the team's reportedly high on Frazier, but that's got to be in a supplemental capacity only at this point, I would think.

I don't mind going into a draft with a plan to get Jeff Heath more work in a pinch if the board doesn't break right, but losing Church and Wilcox both would be a hit. At the same time, I agree, you don't want to pay too much for Church. But he's a better player than is usually given credit for around here. Other teams are going to have interest in him. If he walks, you need to bring in a stop-gap vet and draft a replacement player for the position group at some point in the draft. That can get expensive, too.

Kavon Frazier step on up. You're the next contestant in your price is right.

I'm a Church fan. I'd love to keep him if you can go 2 years. I'm not as high on Wilcox, but he did show improvement this season. I agree that having one back would be ideal. But if we spend a pick in the top 3 rounds on a safety, we'll be fine. But I'd much rather have one of those guys in hand so you can let the draft board fall to you instead of having a glaring need.
