Roger Staubach Comments on ESPN

Brady Quinn has a decent shot. Back in the 60's, it was thought that one Heisman for anyone was enough. Onlly Archie Griffin got two, and that was just so totally out of line- he was not even the best RB in football those two years, but he got it anyway.

Yes, Quinn would be right there at the top. Brent Musberger after the OSU-ND game, said Troy Smith should be considered, but may been just a reaction from his great game. I'm not sold on that, but like the idea being a Buckeye fan. Which brings me to.....Oh, yes Archie deserved the back-to-back Heisman's. What other RB you referring to that may have deserved it. Keep in mind back then it was unheard of for anyone but a Senior to win the Heisman. That is how good Archie was. It also helps being on a top 10 team, being in the mix for National Championships every year. To bad in didn't work out in the NFL for him.

Interestingly enough, Roger Staubach won the Heisman in 63 as a Junior. The next year, John Huarte won it from Notre Dame. A shame really as Roger had better numbers but Huarte was playing for a 9-1 Notre Dame team.

To be fair, Huarte and the Irish really had a great year going 9-1 in 64. There only lose was to USC, I believe on a very questionable called game in the collisum. They also destroyed the Middies 40-0 that year. I believe that Roger Staubach was injured that season which is a big reason he didn't repeat. Not certain if he actually played in that game. I know he played in 63 and the Middies beat the Irish that year. I believe 64 was Parseghian's first year in South Bend.
