He's being touted as a better version of Cameron Lawrence. Can play Will LB and STs. Also played for Cowboys LB coach Matt Eberflus while both were at Missouri.

He's playing spelling police. Don't bother.

Just like we wouldn't be able to sign 15 free agents this free agency period. There is just so much wrong with the he above post. Scandrick and Carr are both scheduled to be on the roster. Patmon too.

But be alarmist if you want to, I guess.

Wew. I was worried for a second until you explained to me that the Cowboys can afford to have Tyler Patmon on the roster next season.

You missed the point completely. We can afford much more than that.

We can worry about the 2015 Draft and Training Camp before fretting about only being 32m under the cap for 2016.

This off-season started slowly, but has come one strong.

Nope, time to panic!

This contract leaves Dallas with approx 12m in cap space.(8m still needs to go towards Hardy's contract) + (2m needs to go towards the Draft picks)

So basically we're tight against the cap since teams have to leave some breathing room in case it's needed during the season.

My eyes go crossed paying attention to the cap numbers, so could someone just tell me what year the Cowboys will actually have cap space? 2016? 2020? Is it something my son might experience if he stays healthy?

Depends how you look at it. If the Cowboys don't re-sign/extend Hardy and Dez, they will go into 2016 with a boatload of cap space. Carr is likely to be cut either this year or next. With no in season deals and assuming they cut Carr next year and not this year(which Im starting to think he's here on his same deal this year), they will have 38.4m in space to work with. If they restructure Tyron again, they would end up with around 45.8m. If they cut Gachkar its 48.8m in cap room.

Even if they extend Hardy, Dez and Crawford, they will have a lot of flexibility to work with next year, without pushing much money forward. This is based on a projected 150m salary cap and using overthecap.com

I would try yo sign Crawford to a decent deal now

My line of thinking exactly.

The guy can clearly play. Why not extend him early in hopes of getting an Orlando Scandrick type deal in place?

That is... If he's willing to extend. He probably expects to put up big numbers with Hardy next to him and lock in a big pay day next year.

Let your son always be healthy. For Real.
Edit: And if he's not healthy- I pray for it's swift return.

He gets 750k base, 500k signing bonus, 250 workout bonus and 94k per game or 1.5m(14 games LTBE). The signing bonus is the only guaranteed money.

That leaves his cap number at 2.812m right now and could reach 3m of he plays all 16 games or it could be corrected down after the season if he misses more than 2 games

There is another 1m available based on snaps played:

65%= 250k
70%= 500k
75%= 750k
75%+playoffs= 1m

That bonus would be accounted for after the season and pushed to 2016 if cap money was not available

not a bad deal for Jerra. thanks Jerra for burning the midnight oil to git er done. I am all fired up for Ro this season!

That is the thing with cap space. It is a balance between having enough to maneuver and spending enough to compete.

It can generally be created when needed, but there is no reward for excess cap space. Teams like JAX and OAK have to over pay just to attract FAs.

Dallas could still create up to 20m this off-season, but don't have a lot to spend it on.

Restructure Witten............ 3m
Restructure/Paycut Carr....4m
or
Post May12th cut Carr.......8m
Extend Dez.........................5-7m
Cut Dunbar/CJones...........3m

Do you know why Hardy's cap number will be $8M higher this year when it's all based on NLTBE bonuses while McClain's NLTBE goes next year?

I saw the thread about it a while back but never got through reading it all to determine whether or not his cap charges apply to one year or the other.

Several people including our own cap expert Adam posted stories showing that NLTBEs are earned when achieved and paid for according to the CBA.

Since Hardy will earn and get paid 580k per game after Week 2, Dallas would need approx 8m if he plays the remaining 14 games.

Dallas would have to have the cap space available weekly or face a frozen roster. IF the League determined Dallas was trying to intentionally skirt the cap rules by not getting compliant, they could fined and stripped of draft picks.

Dallas doesn't physically need the cap space for Hardy until he earns it and if he gets suspended they will need less, but they need to have a plan.

If I'm correct, Hardys NLTBE bonuses are game
bonuses. Basically, he plays and you have to have the cap room or deal with the consequences. Mcclain has 2 of those as well, for 188k extra space if he plays in 16 games. His other bonuses for snaps are not a game bonus, so I believe those would go onto next years cap.
