McClain has some LTBE incentives in this year's deal and to be able to get the money back on the cap he has to stay attached to the team.
It's likely that the Cowboys are also trying to get back some of the 750K signing bonus they paid McClain. He most likely won't be in shape after
the 10 game suspension and it's likely he won't be with the team this year. This is all about Jerry getting at least some of his money back from
a guy to should have been sent packing last year. Oh well!
Yeah. I heard that today on the Break. Makes sense.

I have absolutely no problem with the fact that Rolando McClain doesn't want to play football anymore. That's entirely his prerogative.

I DO have a problem with him signing a contract to play, getting fat, then welching on the deal and keeping his signing bonus.

And I especially have a problem with the fact that Jerry is the only person on the planet who didn't see this coming.

If he's suspended Jerry doesn't have to pay him and the club is reimbursed for the cap charge.

And the $750K, we'll see how that goes.

The guy played well last year when he did play... to not resign him... and it was a rather risk free contract for the Cowboys, would have been questionable.

This!

So well said.

It's bad enough that they quickly re-upped with him when there were other options available (how would James Laurinitis look right about now?), but that they somehow got into bed with him on a deal where they couldn't get rid of him if and when something like this happened?

Ya can't fix stupid.

'well maybe it was codeine not weed that he was suspended for??
Sounds like he needs to be locked up in a padded room-rehab for about a year.
get checked for being bipolar.

Looks like his nfl career is over. he wont be playing for the cowboys later in the year.
no other team will want him, so he blew a chance to make millions.

Making a mockery of Jerry and Co.
Yep, why is everyone mad a McClain? He's been this way from the beginning of his career and just another high risk/reward player our FO rolled the dice with and lost. Even JJ was sticking up for him which means to me that McClain was pretty much on the up and up throughout. "This is who I am and the way I play, take it or leave it", attitude. Jerry thought he could change the leopards spots with his $$ and his laid back policies like he does with so many others and they took advantage.
Hell if I could fish and eat BBQ all day long as opposed to getting beat up on a football field, I might do the same thing. Not a bad way to retire so I can't judge the player. He's not beating up women, fighting dogs or putting anyone else's life in danger that I know of. Everyone went into this with both eyes open and now it's time for both parties to move on.

You should have stopped before throwing out the "Laurinitis"... That guy is way past it. A stoned McClain's a better player at this point.

On top of that the Cowboys signed Durant and have a MLB-in-training in Hitchens.

You can try to bash Laurinits if it makes you feel better, but the fact is that he had a better year last season and a far better career overall. And he actually shows up for an entire season - repeatedly! The guy has quickly emerged as the Saints defensive captain and leader, where's your guy again?

On top of that the Cowboys signed Durant and have a MLB-in-training in Hitchens.

Talk about reaching. They hope Hitchens can handle the role and at this point, hope they can have Durant longer than half a season. Let's not kid ourselves here, okay?

This was a blunder, and a big one. Attempts to minimize it don't help, or hold water.[/QUOTE]

I took the pic down it was confusing a lot of people. That is a pic of me and DJ Fluker the OT for the Chargers. Not McClain

Disagree with you on these Stash.

Laurintis is past it. I don't care if they make him the Grand Pooh-bah of NO. LOL!

And Hitchens has played in the middle before.

Ok, we'll agree to disagree. One guy is the defensive captain and a durable, reliable leader on his team, and the other guy is Rolando McClain. We chose the wrong one.

And Hitchens has played in the middle before.

He's played it before, sure, but he's been up and down at best, mixing good games with bad. We hope he proves an adequate replacement for McClain, but as we know, hope is not a strategy.

And this defense has more than enough question marks as it is.

What will training camp do for him when he has to sit 10 games. Not much.

It would show some type of seriousness about his career. Coaches expected him to be at camp and he has shown them he is no longer interested.

What bugs me is he got the 750K signing bonus and the new contract March 9th, and he is so out of shape / messed up just a few months later. It's like he robbed the team. I question if he ever intended to play football again.

Laurintis is 29 years old and had 109 tackles last season.

His stats last year really don't look much different than 30 year old Sean Lee.

Is he really ready to be put out to the pasture?

I'm legitimately asking since I really didn't want him play at all last year and for all I know all of his tackles where 10 yards down the field.
