People forget that it was the return of Newman that induced Wade Phillips to actually play way more man-to-man coverage, increasing the pressure up-front. Getting rid of Newman is absolutely stupid, if just from a philosophical view-point in how we play defense. Further, it was Newman that was pushing for man-to-man prior to his injury, which actually shows the influence he has on this defense. I have absolutely no problems with Newman saying we should employ more confusion in our defensive packages, whether in the secondary or up-front. Wade, I don't believe, brushes the value of Newman's opinions aside.
