Plus Romo had an elite OL. He would have been lucky to make it through half the season behind this OL and running game. Demarco Murray’s 1800+ rushing yards and 13 TDs was a big reason Romo had the season he had in 2014.
You mean he had an elite OL that year. There are plenty of highlights of him running for his life and making plays.

Dak had more games

Romo had a WAY better OL that season.

Tough call.
Romo had a WAY better OL and a WAY better running game with DeMarco Murray. Not a tough call at all. Dak by a sizable margin.

True.

Dak did have the better defense though. Which also helps in that regard.
This defense is better than in 2014 but we still have issues against the run, which may end up being our undoing. This current defense is still not great at making critical stops with games on the line. We also had that problem in 2014.

I gotta go with Dak, mainly because how bad of a running attack this offense was. It did feel like it was all on Dak's shoulders. Thankfully he has Lamb.

I'd take the 2014 offense over this offense though. That running attack with Demarco Murray was so dominant.

Dak

Romo that year had exactly what QBs dream off...A dominant run game...Murray stat wise put up over 2000 yards rushing and receiving with 1800 rushing and 416 receiving

however different systems.....

If Dak had the same O-Line and run game we would go further.. Romo had a monster O-Line. Imagine Dak as a football player today back in 2016 when he took over. Having the O-Line and rookie Elliot. But being able to pass the way he did. Your picking and choosing,

The Romo disrespect on here is asinine
Same as the Dak disrespect. I have no problem if someone chooses Romo, I have an issue with people acting like Romo was a way superior QB when there is absolutely no proof of it.

Maybe some day yall Romo heads will let it go

Daks our QB and thus far both are good qbs that have been failed by skelator

Only 1 can change that narrative

So why aren’t you counting the games Brandon Weeden came in to play mop for Romo too?
Ok.

Weeden played in 4 games in 2014. 1, he finished because Romo got hurt. Not counting that one bc he got hurt. Next game he started and played the whole game.

He played in 2 other games in blowouts. Romo last play in 1 was around 12 minutes left, the other 8:46. So, your right...he gets credit for a half a game of plays.

Still not the 2+ Dak gave up, but worthy of mentioning.

I love Romo and feel like we lost him just as the game was getting easy for him. Dak has made me feel like he is about at that same point now.
I think Dak is still a little behind that, but he's showing signs of veteran QB skill developing with some great ball placement.
And he's also looking like he recovered a lot of the mobility he lost when his ankle broke. Big plus for his game.

Lmao I knew this thread was coming.

Gun to my head I'll say Dak 2023. But him just being in this conversation proves he's not as bad as people make him out to be. Romo had probably the best regular season of any Cowboys quarterback sans a few Roger Staubach years, at the time we thought.

I will say I agree with poster who said Romo's competition was greater than Dak's. Brady, Brees, Manning, Big Ben, and Rodgers were like the golden era of QBs.

However's Dak's competition is Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson, and Allen which to me is superior than Staubach's competition...... Bradshaw, Stabler but he never played Stabler in the playoffs. I don't think he ever lost to Tarkenton in the playoffs either. Correct me if I'm wrong I'm not old enough for those early 70s teams. Staubach had to worry about the Rams and the Steelers. Dak has to worry about the 49ers and a very strong AFC (certainly stronger than the Aikman period).

I think the last similarity is we let one team ruin our season in '14. Packers ruined the tiebreaker advantage we had over Seattle who I thought was behind us the whole year, then they snuck up on us and snagged the #1 seed away from us just because the Packers forced us into the 3 way tiebreaker, which then we lost to Seattle despite beating them in the regular season.

And then part 2 is when the Packers beat us at Lambeau. Just really unfortunate we couldn't get the 1 seed. Imagine us having to play sorry *** Carolina at home, and then getting either Green Bay or Seattle in the championship game.

Let's not let one team ruin our season again. We lost the tiebreaker to San Francisco moving us below to the 2 seed. Let's reverse the script by changing history on that one little bit and avoid a repeat situation of 2014.

Yes, Romo had a great line in 2014, but people forget that the passing and running games are in a synergistic relationship. Both a very good QB and very good running game/offensive line help each other. You typically will not have a very good running game with an average QB.
