No doubt the failure of this offense has been a Colleftive effort by all the players and coaches.
While I agree, I think it's a stretch to call it an "offensive failure," since it only applies to 3rd down, and that it's not a coincidence that the failures are basically limited to obvious passing situations since the Denver game. Just speculating, but I think after the INT against Denver, when his coach criticized him (even publicly) for not sliding away from the pressure, Romo has become ultra-conscious of doing just that. That's just the beginning of just one of the problems on 3rd down, but losing Waters only exacerbated it. I think lapses in pass protection (real or perceived) is probably at the root of this, and then the way the coaches have gone about handling it and the players have executed it has made it worse.

And I seen it, it's no secret he has been in a slump for the past couple weeks. Overall for the entire YEAR that he has played, he hasn't been bad on normal 3rd down situations. Only in 3rd and LONG situations. Or if I'm wrong, how do you explain his 99 QB rating on 3rd and <3 through the entire first 10 weeks? Notice I'm not talking about a couple selected games, I'm talking about every game he has played this year.

And no he hasn't been getting progressively worse, that's complete b.s. Though, feel free to prove me wrong.

If you cant see he's slipping then its because you dont want to see it nothing I can say is going to make you see it so we will just have to disagree.

I think most fans that are being objective can look at Romo's body of work this season and say something is wrong. Even his biggest supporters (and I was one) are worried whether they openly admit it or not.

Did you not read my post? I said "it's no secret he has been in a slump for the past couple weeks". Any fan looking at our team objectively can tell Romo is one of the least of our problems. Yes, it's true that we're struggling on 3rd down, but it's because of a lot of things, not just Romo.

Many here want to put our offensive struggles solely on Romo just because he's the QB, and they couldn't be anymore wrong.

That's an awfully melodramatic way to describe a series of 3rd downs over five games.

Over the last five games, these are the top 5 passers on 1st and 2nd down:
Manning 88 of 131 1134 10 td 3 int 110.0
Brees 80 of 118 972 7 td 2 int 105.6
Romo 86 of 136 957 7 td 1 int 98.2
Dalton 91 of 150 1175 9 td 4 int 94.2
Brady 70 of 114 891 6 td 3 int 92.4

Since 77.7% of our plays during this span have been 1st or 2nd down, I wouldn't be worried about Romo "slipping," but obviously 3rd downs are a big concern right now.

We can talk about Romo all we want, but since the Denver game the team is 3-2. In the two losses the Cowboys defense has given up over 1250 yards, and we talk about Romo?

Just more reason to wonder if we have the dumbest fan base the sports?

I'm saying that if you watch other things besides just the throw, you'll see more, and you'll get a better picture of how it's not just bad throws by Romo that are causing our problems on 3rd down. Keep watching the throws, but also watch where Dez lines up and how he's defended, where pressure comes from and how or if it's picked up, and where Romo has to move to avoid it, and how far Witten gets down the field on 3rd and long, or if he runs a route at all. Above all, watch what a guy named Terrance Williams has been doing on 3rd down.

Although you may even delight in the fact that bad decisions by Romo (not just bad throws) also play a role, you'll end up seeing that the fault for our 3rd down struggles isn't Romo's alone. Either way, I think you'll appreciate the game more, (and the team concept) and be able to talk about it in a more comprehensive way. Only prerequisites are an open mind, an eye for the details, and a willingness to accept that there's almost always more than one reason that something isn't working.

You are preaching to the quire, I watch every single snap of every game. There are problems all over the place. With that said, I expect more out of our 108m QB and his 3rd down numbers are absolutely horrendous and HE certainly plays a substantial role in them being bad.

You used to be a big ole blind Romo lover too....lol. Now you are turning into a Romo realist. Congrats for being honest and not continuing to make excuses for the guy.

Romo's obviously the reason we haven't finished 5-11 the last two seasons. Just think of the 108 million as the numerical value of hope.

I'm so glad he keeps us from 5-11 and instead gets us to 8-8. What would we do without him? We are screwed when he leaves. Where on earth would we find a QB to get us to 8-8 in the future? The Romo realists are gonna really be sorry one day!

Because of scheduling luck, we might do it for one season, but historically, teams with defenses and running games this bad don't consistently get as many as 8 wins per season. What the team was able to accomplish by getting up to .500 with this defense and this running game each of the last two seasons was very rare.
