For the first time this season, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not ruling out Tony Romo for Dallas' next game. Jones has in the past immediately shut down any thought of Romo, who is recovering from a fractured back suffered during the preseason, being active for the following week when he has talked to reporters after one of the Cowboys' games.

This week was different.

"Unlike last week, I wouldn't speculate," Jones said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I don't know. But he will do more. And he's really doing things that are strong relative to last year's strength. He's ahead of last year."

Wait Romo will have a small set back this week and won't dress after it is said and done. :D

Ultimately this is JG's decision, yes? I see Garrett as being too pragmatic to switch out Dak for Romo at this juncture

So how long will it take for Jerry to insert Romo back in the lineup? One loss? Two losses? Unless we go 15-1 I can see Jerry pulling the plug on Dak at some point.

My comment wasn't intended for you Trouty. I had already checked the article and saw it had exactly the same title as I expected.

I'm highly critical of the media and current journalistic standards. It's one of my pet peeves. :p

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out if this is for real or more Jerry Speak, East :)

Been searching the web like crazy but nothing more of any substance is popping up. Probably CBS Sports spinning Jerry Speak into click bait. I would expect at least a few more outlets picking this up if it was a true possibility. But good sports (Cowboys) fodder, nonetheless :)

I liked Broaddus' reasoning: You don't wait until there's reason to take Dak out, and in so doing, inherently plant the seed of doubt in his head for when he comes back after Romo's finished his Dallas run. For Dak's own sake, you put him in a position to be the hero, either coming back in this season after Romo falters, or, better, coming back in next season after Romo exits the roster.

All of this momentum stuff is bunk. Like I think Jimmy Johnson (?) is noted for saying, momentum is a matter of what you do on the next play. Dak is clearly capable of playing at a high level... maybe/hopefully over time, we'll find he's capable of playing at the highest level.

But Romo is clearly capable of playing... now... at the highest level.

And so I like my reason better than Broaddus, though admittedly it is more short-sighted, but hey, you gotta strike while the iron is hot... these opportunities don't arise every season...

Who do I feel more confident about starting a playoff game? Who do I feel more confident about leading us into a Super Bowl?

It's the guy with the history of playing at the highest level... the guy who stands with the best QBs in NFL history in his high pressure 4th quarter body of work.

Confirming Jerry Speak and sensationalism inspired article construction are mutually exclusive goals. It's unnecessary to use disjointed quotes and speculate what they mean for future actions. The goal should always be to report what's said and let the public decide what anything said means.

CBS Sports could have gone with the title Romo Cleared For Practice only. But that's too practical. Of course, the powers that be did a customary stringing of quotes together to make the underlying article "legitimate"--even though the quotes themselves may not actually tie into the story being conveyed. It's nonsense but customary for today's media preferred publication.

Ok, so you put Romo in, and he stinks it up and we lose, how long is his leash? Are you assuming Romo comes back like he never left? How many games do you give to lose? Because if Romo stinks it up, and Dak replaces him, that will be the end of Romo in Dallas.
