Rodgers' terrible game today drops his QB rating to 111.2... Romo's rating rose to 110.4. A strong finish in these last 2 games by Tony and another mediocre game from Rodgers could be the difference.

Yep, that's still 2nd best in the NFL, folks. Like it's been for much of the season. I can't imagine Romo getting MVP consideration no matter what happens from here on out since Murray and the OL have been such a big story all year.

Still, this puts into perspective just how much of a monster Romo's been this year. Those who still think he sucks or isn't "clutch" probably need a new hobby that isn't so confounding to them.

What I'm really curious about: let's say Romo and the 'Boys finally do it and get that Lombardi. Either this year or in the next few years. What will the haters do? Pretend they've been Romo fans who have enjoyed the journey all along?

Part of me feels sorry for these poor saps... they're witnessing an all-time GREAT under center for their favorite team, and they won't even realize it until it's too late (if at all).

I mean... you people realize the guy's a LOCK for the Hall of Fame if you add a Super Bowl ring to his already incredible resume, right?

Can yall imagine if Tony had any mobility outside the pocket left? I mean, that is a whole dimension missing from our offense........the run threat from our QB. His rating would be higher if he ran even more than once in awhile.

For a guy that's as elusive as he is, he's soooooooo slow. Plus, he's a walking injury these days.

I dunno. Sometimes I wish he'd take off and run and get those easy yards, but then he does some sort of whirly-doodle in the pocket and makes a big play through the air after like 8 seconds back there. I'm alright with his choices right now.

I'll pass on that (no pun intended). The less hits your QB takes, the better. Most of those scrambling QBs aren't great passers or they get hurt. Or both.

I am not comparing him to Manning or Brady(or Wilson, RG3 and Kaepernickel in this example). Just saying that his QBR would be higher if he tucked it in and ran for the first instead of taking a sack. Our offense would even look better if Romo was a threat to run, have to admit that.

Totally agree. Particularly before back problems, Romo had many opportunities to pull the ball down and run for 1st downs to move the chains. Far too often he would throw incompletions 20yds downfield. Defenses never had to worry/plan to combat a qb who could steal a few yards running. We compounded this by rarely use the RBs in the passing game. LBs could get deep drops and more effectively defend our passing attack.

Maybe I should've clarified... my OP was in reference to the traditional QB rating (or passer rating) which doesn't account for rush yards or sacks. Sounds like you're possibly thinking of the ESPN-created Total QBR which takes more stuff into account.

Entering today, Romo was 3rd in Total QBR, behind Rodgers and Peyton.

I'm not so sure the offense would be better off if Romo looked to run more (if he were even physically capable). SF fans hate Kaepernick's guts right now because he doesn't read defenses well from the pocket and it's hurting them. He goes to his 1st read and if it's covered, he takes off.

When you're looking to run, you're not looking to pass, and that means you could miss an open receiver downfield. So that 10-yard scramble looks like a good play, but it might've cost you a 30-yard completion had you stayed in the pocket and went through your reads. Even when Tony scrambles he keeps his eyes up because he's buying time to let his receivers get open. I'd say it's worked pretty well for him so far.

I know what you are saying. I am just stating that if Romo was a run threat, our offense would be better. As it stands now, teams know he will not leave the pocket and that limits our offensive potential allowing opposing defenses one less thing to worry about.

If Romo could still run, he'd be a top 4 QB in the league imo. His inability to pick up yards forces him to force passes at times or throw it away. He's still great though, and without him we wouldn't sniff the wildcard.

Just to throw some additional perspective out there.

There is a little current bias in judgement of quarterbacks who come from the collegiate ranks and have either leg earned prestige or who make most of their completions on 70% of their passes to their first target viewed after the snap.

It takes time to function fully in the pocket, as this last game with Cleveland's blessed quarterback showed. Add some running damage with the transition to top pocket function, as Washington well knows, and the risk of the 'alternate' quarterback may instead have major inhibiting aspects to quarterback development. Then hence, play as that team advances as well.
