Game has not changed that much, if a QB can avoid turnover and not lose a game you can win. No doubt poor QB play can lose game faster than any other position but you don't need to be Arron Rodgers to win SB it take a team to do that. Always has and always will. Naming Tebow and Sanchez? please they are poor QB and as I said poor QB can lose you a game. Guys like Brad Johnson and guys like Trent Dilfer played good ball they made few mistakes and their teams won.

Unless you've been following the game for only a few years it hasn't changed much but if you've been following it since the 70's it's changed a lot. The NFL was 4 yards and a cloud of dust back then. The rules are night and day different today than they were back then. Just look at the numbers QB's were putting up in the 70's compared to today. How can you say the game hasn't changed much when we're seeing 5000 yard passers today?

It's common in todays game to see QB's pass for over 4000 yards even rookie QB's are hitting the ground running putting up numbers that not even some HOF QB's of the 70's ever put up. And you say the game hasn't changed much??? Guys like Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer were bus drivers during a period where bus drivers could win a SB if they were supported by a running game and a great defense. All they were asked to do was not make mistakes. They weren't asked to win games just don't lose them.

The 2000 Ravens had one of the greatest defenses in NFL history that's why they won with Dilfer who was released after winning that SB. Brad Johnson's Bucs defense was putting up more TD's than he was. :laugh2: Johnson was the last average QB to win a SB and that was 10 years ago. The QB's who've won SB's since are potential HOF QB's Brady, Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers ....Case closed!

Not talking about the 70's Roethlisberger does not benifet greatly off the defense? Give me a break how about Eli they were a 500 club last year until their defense got healthy and actually started making plays. The game like it or not is not just about QB. Rodgers last season does not make it to the SB gets bumped out why? did he turn into a bad QB? no his defense sucked they could not stop anyone so no matter how great he is they can't win without others.

You said the game hasn't changed much and over the years it has the proof is there. It's different now than it was in the 70's, 80's and 90's and the rule changes are the main reason. Roethlisberger has clearly benefitted off his defense but during his last SB win his defense got chewed up by Kurt Warner for over 400 yards. His defense let him down late in the game giving up a 64 yard TD to Larry Fitzgerald with just 2:53 left which put Roethlisberger in a do or die situation. The game was won with Roethlisberger hitting Holmes in the corner of the end zone with 35 seconds left.

The Giants defense played well both seasons NY won the SB but it was Eli making great plays that ultimately won those championships which is why he was named the games MVP both times. As for Rodgers he didn't play well last season in the playoffs vs the Giants he got outgunned by Eli. Rodgers only completed 56% of his passes in that game and tossed a pick which was rare for him last season he only had 6 int's all year. His passer rating was only 78.5 which was way down from his season average of 122.5.

The 2 worst games Rodgers played last season the Packers lost both times...coincidence? The playoff game between the Giants and Packers came down to both QB's. While Rodgers struggled that day Eli was on the money. He passed for 330 yards, completed almost 64% of his passes, tossed 3 TD's and had a passer rating of 114.5. Rodgers defense wasn't good all season in 2011 it ranked dead last. They didn't even have a running game and managed to go 15-1. The Packers were winning games off the arm of Rodgers he was unstoppable practically all season which is why he was named the leagues MVP. He had off games vs KC and NY and lost both games.

Since when is QBs making plays/drives to win games a new thing in the NFL. I'm pretty sure that was just as true in the 60s and 70s as it is today.
