I think the perception that he is a choker is definitely still there -- but the people who've said "hes a 3rd string QB!" and "I'd rather have Mark Sanchez" are no longer. Mark Sanchez is not capable of 500 yards and 5 touchdowns, yet alone playing a better game than Peyton Manning.

Romo's a solid quarterback, but his problem is consistency and melting down in critical moments. Some games he looks awesome, and others, the offense looks terrible. A lot of it could have to do with Garrett's system, but when it's said and done, it's more than 'lack of hardware.' It's more like constantly missing the playoffs. Last time we were in was, what 2009? We missed the playoffs 3 years in a row.

Have you honestly met anyone who's said that they'd rather have Sanchez over Romo?

There are literally dozens of them on this board posting today. Sanchez has 4 road playoff wins, tied for third all-time and four times that of Romo. If they don't think Sanchez is better than Romo, the entire foundation of their Romo-hating logic falls apart.

When discussing Romo, both sides of the fence like to look at the numbers and stats. On one side, Romo's an incredible QB who will have broken every team passing record when he retires. On the other side, people point to one playoff win and believe Romo can't win the big game and/or chokes with the game on the line. Both have solid grounds for their opinions and it's an argument that can't be won on either side until this team makes some sort of playoff run and shows some some consistency.

The problem I have with all the stats is that I watch the games. Romo doesn't need a #1 D. He just needs a good defense, just like Brees or Brady or any other good QB. How many times have we seen Romo drive the team for the go ahead score and the D lets the opposing team right back in it? How many times has the D been unable to keep momentum even though they have been playing solid the whole game? Seattle playoff game and Romo bobbles the snap. That's what people remember. But I remember Seattle pinned at their own goal line with 2 minutes left and the Cowboys have 3 time outs. The whole country knows a run is coming and the RB rumbles and stumbles though our DL for big gains on two consecutive plays to seal the win. The playoff game against the Giants....didn't we just score before the half and with literally seconds left, the D allows Manning and company to march down the field and score in Madden like fashion to gain momentum?

As often as people feel that Romo chokes in the clutch, I see the same thing on D year after year. Brandon Carr made a huge pick last year to seal a win. Morris Claiborne picked up a fumble and scored...those things happen so infrequently that we can probably rattle off a handful of times that's happened. More often than not, Romo has a big game and D folds. It's unreal how many times we've lost in the Romo era when he posts a QB rating of over 100 (tops in the NFL among active QB's from another thread....thanks Percy). It's also unreal how much we lose when Romo has a QB rating of under 100 or a sub par game....almost always. This whole team is it's QB.

Brady has Belichick and he had as much to do with NE's playoff/SB run as Brady, IMO (and I'm not knocking Brady). Somehow everyone knew that Belichick would have the defense ready and have a unique game plan to stop Manning and force turnovers. Somehow you just knew that Belichick would come up with a game plan to stop the "Greatest Show on Turf." The guy does it all the time and sometimes with no-name players that he just plug and plays into his system.

Until this team gets a solid D (doesn't have to be great), it'll continue to be a 500 club even with a record breaking QB. That's the sickening thing about watching this team play with a franchise QB and lose.

He's a damn good QB. What would happen if Romo had a defense that was a top 5? Top 10? Match this with his production and what would you get? I'd like to know? Anyone here think we are 5-1 with a defense like Seattle? I do.

Agreed, he is a dam good QB.
Defense - ok, this seems to be very popular. But forget about defense for a minute. Make like teams don't have them. He does "costly" things while on offense that have nothing to do with defense.

Now, the way he is playing this year... We would be 6-0 with that defense.

The caveat is... Even with that defense he would still do something "Favre-like" and maybe cost us a game or two....for no dam good reason other than doing something "dumb".

We have seen it before. Don't want to see it no more.

You know, that goes back to the main issue with the Romo argument, everything is so incredibly black and white, there's very little gray.
