Image: Romo gives Bryant the thumbs up

People that are concerned about defenses stealing the "signal" need to stop worrying. I'm pretty sure Romo told Bryant, in the huddle, "if they give us that single high press look then look for the thumbs up and we are going go to the 9 route again." In the gif you can see Romo checking out the defense, sees the same coverage, then waits for Bryant to turn his head to give him the thumbs up and let him know to run the 9 route.

Gotta take advantage of single coverage, every single time.. I always tell my lady look, Dez is singled up and Romo just looked his way, it's on!!!

I agree, once you see the safeties up or they are single high then I would look to Dez or Williams down field. You have to make defense pay for cheating up at the line, if you don't they will continue to cheat up

Interestingly enough, the Eagles defensive coordinator said that Fletcher had more help than not then entire game, it's just that on the occasionans he didn't, Romo saw it and went after him.

He gave a lot of credit to Romo for his coverage reads and said he burned them in some crucial situations.

Didn't the corner have safety help on all three TDs? I don't think he was ever truly single covered, there was always help over the top. The execution (i.e. Romo's passes) was just too good.

no safety tried to get back but since they were playing up they had no chance to help over the top

True, but if I am a free safety and I can see that... I am moving right on top of Dez

All QB's have signals like this for their WR's and if you're a safety and see that and decide to ignore what you were supposed to do to go cover Dez - then they probably knew you'd do that and they just played you.

I'll post the pics I have later when I get to my lap top but I don't recall a safety in the picture, maybe after it was too late...

I think the 3rd one--the thumbs up one--was true single coverage. Any safety help was an afterthought.

And yes, the ball was so perfect he could have handed it to him and not placed it any better.
Dez got nice separation there....a true burn job.

You really think Romo is going to do that again? And if he does it could be a decoy.
This was hardly the first time he's done the thumbs up thing. It doesn't mean one specific thing, so it really doesn't matter if the defense sees it or not, I don't think.

Gotcha. Couldn't recall. If they truly left the corner exposed like that, not his fault.

The two of them are starting to develop a Aikman/Irvin type relationship on the field.

I remember one game when the Cowboys came to the line of scrimmage and the opponent's CB noticed that he was isolated one on one against Irvin. He frantically called for a time-out before the snap. He was bailed out before the play was run, he knew that he was moments away from being toasted.

It's not going to be an issue, because I don't think teams are going to single Dez anymore.

PHI should have known better than to think they'd be able to get away with another 60 minute mugging. Better to get gashed by the run than to cover a player like Dez with a player like Fletcher. We'd all be giving that a thumbs-up, too.

More appropriate would have been putting at Fletcher, and making the index finger into index finger/thumb hole motion.

Well they kept stacking the box expecting the run, in fact most teams recently have been selling out to try to stop Murray. It costs them dearly...

Unfortunately, I think you're right unless it's an elite CB.

Philly was misled by the tired legs of our o-line and the non-existence of real Romo in the first game. They thought they could get enough heat to protect their secondary.
wrong

You knew when the refs threw that touchy illegal contact flag that the 'just interfere with the wide outs' coverage scheme from Thanksgiving wasn't going to be allowed.

Speaking of which, the refs get short shrift after most games. I thought they did a really nice job on Sunday. Even the touchy calls like that illegal contact on Dez early or Free's hold were fairly legit, and they didn't like the game get controlled by one side or the other using aggressive tactics. They also kept a game that could have gotten really chippy from getting out of control at any point.

Just a question for those that digest more than myself. Does martin help Fredrick with line calls, timing and snap at times or does Fredrick totally listen to Tony?
