Tony still has 19.6m in Dead Money after this year.....if he does retire it will have to finessed to minimize the salary cap impact......if he waits until next June it would be the same as June 1st cut and split the cap hit into 10.7m dead in 2017 and 8.9m dead in 2018.....that would be workable and actually save a ton off his projected hits if he stayed
That's why I don't see him retiring at all. We owe him big time money. At least next couple years he will likely be our starter. If not, he's a well paid veteran backup.

Welp, this is going to be fun (and I'm serious).

Dak running abiliy will help a lot... he just has to be smart with his play.

Get out of my head.

It's sickening man. Now they're going to suck but they'll deflect attention by mentioning Witten's stats or Jerry's HOF, etc...you're right this thing is a big *****' joke.
I feel bad for Witten and Romo. Great Cowboys. Great players. Jerry has hung on to them in spite of any REAL winning....because he can point to their productivity on the field and their high character off the field....to distract the fanbase from the W/L record. ONLY....ONLY...in Dallas does this happen.

So youd like to see the QB weve lived and died with for the last decade go somewhere else and win a superbowl. Awesome, you should turn in your fan card now.

Were we not celebrating for Demarcus Ware when he finally got his in Denver?

I just informed the Romo bashers on my Facebook friends list that any gloating over this injury will result in getting blocked. I am fed up with it and will not deal with it. This freaking makes me sick.

I agree that would be the worst. Why can't we just hope that Dak does well and then Tony does well when he comes back?

If we're 4-4, I'm not calling that "contention". These clowns tried that last year and wasted an entire season and accomplished nothing other than devaluing their draft pick.

If the team is 4-4 with the quarterback of the future? The future is now. Play Prescott.

If we're 4-4 and the division leader is 5-3, I'd still call that in contention. At that point, if Romo is healthy, I still think a veteran qb would give you a better chance at a playoff run than a rookie, even a rookie who is the qb of the future.

I do get the skepticism that Romo can finish a season healthy at this point. But I'd still want him to take over in that scenario.

This is something I posted yesterday....at the time I did not know Romo was going to miss a lot of time. I will preface this by saying I am middle aged man that has been a die hard Cowboys fan since the 70s. But I watch a lot of football. And I figured out a long time ago that this is not run like a REAL FOOTBALL operation. Lastly...been a staunch supporter and defender of Romo for a long time. Wish him well.

Once again....too many of you all have not been paying attention. Jerry has cultivated an environment where star power/relationships has taken priority over winning(just re-visit him bemoaning passing over Johnny Manziel). Has he done this purposely? No. He really believed 500 coaches could coach this team. He really believed that he would become a GM that could have a Super Bowl contending team on a consistent basis. Once he realized these things were not as easy as Jimmy made them look. He made business moves to ensure that at the very least this organization was highly profitable. No surprise there. He is one of the best when it comes to making money

What does this have to do with Romo you ask? Romo has starpower. AND....AND...Jerry is very comfortable with Romo. I am pretty sure Romo makes Jerry feel a lot better about himself than Troy EVER did. Jerry is also comfortable with Garrett. And we know Garrett makes Jerry feel better about himself than Jimmy EVER did. Jerry is also very comfortable with Witten. No matter how many 2nd round picks we have used on TEs...not one....not one..was able to get Witten's snaps reduced. Were they as good as Witten? No. Should we have gotten more out of our investment of a 2nd round pick? Yes. Would those players been more productive had they been drafted by some other team? Yes. Have those players gone elsewhere and proven that they at least deserved a bigger opportunity than they got in Dallas. Yes.

What I am trying to say is...because of the culture in Dallas....certain people have been afforded the run of this place. Romo will decide when Romo is finished. No...that does not mean that he will play another 10 years....but he will not be benched by this outfit anytime soon. Just like Wittens snaps have not been reduced. Just like Garrett is not on the hot seat this year like so many people think he is. I would bet this front office is waiting for the glass slipper to fall off from Dak. Heck...you want more proof that they don't really want anybody here to threaten Romo? They were prepared to roll with Kellen Moore this year as the backup. Dak has looked better than Kellen Moore will ever look. And ironically, if Moore does not get hurt....we would have never seen Dak.

Might be too much for some of you all to swallow. But all I am saying is.....pay attention.

And for the record...I have been as big a Romo defender here on this board...and in private circles amongst other NFL fans.
Yeah, Jerry the GM has lucked his way into getting great players. If it wasn't for Quincy Carter smoking weed we would have cut Romo. If Moore didn't get hurt we would have seen very limited use of Dak in the preseason. If Romo is done for good, and I hope he's not, but if he is how bad does it have to be for Jerry to start making people feel uncomfortable? I know he'll never give up his GM job but I wonder if things can get bad enough he'll change his approach.

in 2014 romo broke his back.. came back the same game and played.. sat 1 game out.. then played the following week against jacksonville..

He had two fractures in his transverse process this sounds like something different we'll just have to wait and see. This is being reported as a broken bone in his back. Can't see how he's going be ready to play in 2 weeks with a broken bone in his back.

lol wait, are YOU talking about a straw man? you're entire point is attacking something I never said nor defended. I haven't given free passes, and has nothing to do with my opinion. I hoped Romo would have more in the tank, and I realistically thought he might not. You haven't seen me say which "side" I was on. You're drumming up hypothetical scenarios about how you think I might act and then arguing that lol... but I'm dealing with a straw man. Sorry for the name calling, you're doing a bang up job distancing yourself.

Yeah, that's exactly what you're doing. And showing your own biases and blatant X double standards with each and every post. Maybe you're really lacking in self awareness? In that case, go back and read everything you wrote until you actually do get it.

lol... I'm over this conversation though. You got it champ

You should run along. You look bad enough as it is.

I don't think so. I think it will be similar to the Manning situation last year (hopefully with the same end result)
If it isnt, then the front office/coaching staff is dumber than we think. What are gonna keep trotting him out there until hes crippled?
